 | jaywilton (33) 05/12/2008 | When it comes to kickin' it around,Billie Holiday is the first singer that comes to mind .She's got one of those voices that doesn't come out of an assembly line-sober or otherwise-and ...Frank Sinatra considers her a big influence. You can't beat her timing or interpretation.I have several disks of hers;I'm partial to the Silver Collection which she did in the fifties. (Verve..got it used from Amazon..and I'm sure the price is still right)Special mention needs to be made of the band with whom she also recorded with elsewhere as there is simply no better lesson on how to back up a vocalist:Harry 'Sweets'Edison(trumpet),Ben Webster(tenor sax),Jimmy Rowles(piano),Barney Kessel(guitar),Red Mitchell and Joe Mondragan(bass),Alvin Stoller and Larry Bunker(drums).
