Harmon Killebrew was a classic. Even his name sounds like baseball...perfect swing...a feared slugger and I understand most pitchers respected him...well about as well as pitchers respect any hitter so to keep things in perspective but that says alot about him. If you get a chance to watch him hit in slow motion it appears like he pulls a trigger and trips the hammer very quickly, pretty surprising for a player that appeared so slow moving. One of my all-time favorites.

To this day he's still a legend in the land of the big timber. There's a street named after him in Minneapolis and a brand of root beer called Killebrew. Along with Rod Carew, he's loved as Bud Grant in Minnesota.

A stocky, powerful man with shoulders a couple of axehandles wide, Killebrew never saw a pitch he couldn't crush. Hit more home runs in the 1960's than any other player in the majors, despite a relatively low batting average.

The last star to emerge with the first Senators, Killebrew really made his mark with the club after they moved to Minnesota, but did hit 42 homers in 1959. A bearlike, slow low average power hitter, but part of the .256 lifetime average is due to the fact that much of his career was spent in an era that favored hurlers. A direct ancestor of the Gorman Thomases, Adam Dunns, and other low average but productive power hitters, but a far better player than any of them- led the league in categories like homers and walks many times, and one of the most feared sluggers of his era.
