When Detroit's Baker's Keyboard Lounge (the world's oldest jazz club)had name jazz people as a rule,I saw him (or guitarist Kenny Burrell) more than anyone. One of the real handful of alltime great trumpet players and innovators(particulary as one of bebop's founders),Gillespie played like a hungry young guy(which he wasn't)every time I saw him.Even in the late 70's/early 80's...for five bucks and a beer...wheeeew!
