 | irishgit (145) 05/14/2008 | This is a subtle and rather peaceful memorial at Kent State University in Ohio, overlooking the Commons, that commemorates May 4, 1970, when four students were killed and nine were wounded by the Ohio National Guard during an anti-war protest on campus.
It is a plaza with four polished stone disks embedded in the ground leading to four pylons aligned on the hill, and the memorial is surrounded by 58,175 daffodils, the number killed in Vietnam, and the words"Inquire, Learn, Reflect" are engraved on the plaza.
While not as emotionally devastating or profoundly moving as some other sites on this list, it has a tranquil, thoughtfulness about it that is quite appealing.
