No, I'm more concerned about Obama's age, to be perfectly honest...

Un-PC to say this, but over the age of 70 a noticeable percentage of us lose a portion of our faculties. The press has been gutless in calling out McCain's age as a serious liability. McCain was a terrific candidate- in 2000. The 2008 McCain is a stammering isolationist on a good day.

72 is not glue factory material.

Let's face it. We are going to see a lot more geezers running around. When I was a kid, 65 was ancient. Now that I am 66, that doesn't look so old. Can the geezer still cut it? That is the criterion.

As someone who will probably end up voting for McCain (I won't be voting for Obama, so that leaves McCain or a non-viable third party candidate), I do have to say that his age does bother me a little. The presidency takes a lot out of people. Take a look of some before and after presidency pictures of recent presidents if you don't believe me. So his choice of running mate does become quite important.

McCain reminds me of one of my perverted uncles but there are better reasons on this list.

So was Reagan. And Reagan was a darn good president!

As long as someone's mind is sharp, what difference does age matter? It comes down to who most represents my ideals. McCain whether you are a fan or not, is definitely mentally capable of being President. Age is not a consideration with me at all.

Any reason is a good reason not to vote for 4 MORE YEARS.
Haven't we had enough?
FranksWildYear s 07/28/2008
It's the flip side of inexperience. In this case, the voters finally have a clear choice between two extremes. However, if elected, Obama will get over his inexperience whereas McCain's old-ness will simply get worse. At the end of two terms, Obama will have been President for 8 years and McCain will be an 80 year old.

We don't need a senile chief executive.
abichara 05/31/2008
If I were advising McCain, I would tell him to embrace his age as a net positive. With Barack Obama most likely heading up the ticket, the contrast will be stark. McCain should not define it as "being old", but rather as having more experience. He should point back to several prominent leaders who served capably and with a progressive vision well into their seventies, including Charles de Gaulle, Konrad Adenauer, and Chou En-Lai. If McCain plays it right, and if he defines the issue against Obama's relative youth and inexperience, McCain should have no problem deflecting questions about his age.

Shouldn't be a huge factor, because he's a hale and hearty guy with no evidence of mental incapacity.
Until such is shown, McCains age is as immaterial as Obama's color and Clinton's gender.

He also can't lift his right arm over his head because he was tortured as a POW...
Ridgewalker 05/19/2008
The first thing that comes to mind is Ronald Reagan. He was shot at the age of 70...just 69 days into his Presidency...finished his term AND a second term.
I'll have what he was having...
Update: Once in a while I ask myself, "What are these people on?" Forget about McCain's age for a moment (nearly 72). Even Hillary's (61). Or Barack's (46). Think about YOUR age. Another reviewer left a pithy comment about McCain not running for the Olympics ; ) But, in a way...they actually are. The campaign trail is a grueling marathon. They just gotta be getting some help besides a morning shot of OJ. They can't get up on any particular morning a decide that they "don't wanna do nuthin'" today. They are driven like sled dogs. It's not normal...

He seems to have unlimited energy and his mom is healthy at 90 something. That being said, he probably needs to pick a credible VP - one that could actually be President.
Donovan 05/19/2008
Old but not dead. He still has a good mind so age has nothing to do with anything.
zuchinibut 05/19/2008
He is older than our other recent Presidents, but that does not mean he is incapable of doing the job. Surely more attention should be paid to his running mate than that of a younger candidate. However, his age does not make him unworthy of President.
EschewObfuscat ion 05/19/2008
Being old is not a reason "not" to vote for someone. Being TOO OLD is.
lmorovan 05/19/2008
He's not running for the Olympic games.
X Factor Z 05/19/2008
I'm confused here, true McCain is probably too old but Obama is too inexperianced but maybe more idealistic and energetic. At least McCain has some experiance, his biggest asset vs. Obama.
