That's odd. I saw him in a video on the Ellen DeGeneres show, and he said he opposed it for reasons they had agreed to disagree on. Perhaps he went back on that, or realised that it was not his place to tell them what they could and couldn't do in their love lives?

Edited a mistake.
5/19/2008 - This makes him a far more electable person than other Republican's in my opinion. By itself this is not a reason to vote for John McCain, but it shows that he is able to vote with a conscious rather than just what he is told to do.

Good for him if that's the case. Unfortunately, he's reversed himself.

Actually, I misread this, John would be a puppet of Conservative Christians if he opposed gay marriage and not the amendment to ban gay marriages. Maybe John does have a good Libertarian streak in him. Morality should not be the realm of the government, but of the churches, the government's role is to protect it's citizens from harm and criminals that actually harm citizens.

the least reason to not vote for him. agree with Irishgit, on making decisions of this subject.

A reason TO vote for him, in my opinion.
The state has no business in the private bedrooms of the nation.

The double negatives in this listing do not have me unconfused.

He knew the amendment wasn't going anywhere. He is too smart to not see the political games that were being played, and he refused to be an accomplice. The time was not right.

What? A Republican who believes in Federalism and doesn't wish to mess with the Constitution in order to extend the federal government's reach? I had heard about these guys, but didn't think they existed anymore.
