The insertion of "Sidney" is really lame. As far as satire is concerned, "Hussein" knocks it out of the park.

Looks like some people are short a few sarcasm receptors.
UPDATE:
I'm voting with EschewObfuscation on this important issue.
For those who don't get it, some of our wingnut brethren have been making a big deal out of Obama's middle name. I guess when you're trying to convince people to vote for FOUR MORE YEARS, you need to use everything you've got.

Since it is obvious that this would be a ridiculous reason not to vote for him, it's time to ask a question that this brings to mind.
Why are so many names that used to be acceptable boys' names now used almost exclusively as girls' names? In addition to Sidney, we have names like Jordan, Adrian, Taylor, Casey, etc.
HistoryFan 07/28/2008
Not voting for a guy because he has a crappy middle name is pretty stupid.

And this is worse than Hussein? How about Forbes, which is almost impossible to say without sticking your nose in the air? We could have William Louis, or Arnold, or Blaine, or Dale, or... get ready for this one... Robinette.
Nah, can't say Sidney is all that bad. I've heard better, but I've certainly heard worse.

For those that have said Sidney is a feminine name, ever heard of Sidney Poitier? Sidney Moncrief was a pretty good male NBA player too! My daughter's name is Sydney. Sydney is the spelling of the feminine not Sidney.
Sidney has got a whole lot better ring to it than Hussein too.

Sidney is the name of the guy who does my taxes. He does a bang up job of that, but I wouldn't want to see a Sidney with his hands on the launch codes.
Of course, now that I think about it, I was none too enthused about handing the nuclear football to guys called Baines, Milhous, Earl, Rudolff, Wilson, Jefferson and Walker either. Those seven sound like cast members of the Simpsons.

This one will likely be a deal breaker for the electorate. Too bad he didn't have a manly middle name like Milhouse, Baines or Herbert Walker.
Donovan 05/19/2008
Oh, this is just horrible. We must never have a president with a middle name of Sidney. It can't be, stop, stop, stop... don't vote, move to another country, flee now.
EschewObfuscat ion 05/19/2008
Excellent point and articulately stated.
lmorovan 05/19/2008
I would still prefer Sidney than Hussein :)
Automatt 05/19/2008
You can't deny it -- "Sidney" is a gay name in the sixth-grade sense of the word.
magellan 05/19/2008
Sidney is a girl's name. In these complicated times, can we afford to project a feminine image to the rest of the world?
