These people receive more training than most restaurant workers.

Good quality coffee more often than not BUT-Wildly overpriced, service can certainly vary, the waitstaff can indeed be over-educated English majors who have made the crippling mistake of not going to graduate school (immediately) thus insuring wonderful nights of reading Blake while hoping to live without good health insurance. . .And the people who turn Coffee Baristas into college libraries have got to go. . .parking your ass, plugging in your laptop, and taking a whole table for three hours? Death by public crucifixion when I am king. . .

I actually was a barista for a while, so been there, done that. I'd probably consider it again if I need to. I was a morning manager of a coffee shop at one time a while back. I would have like a four hour shift making $6 an hour but I would average around $40 in tips.....so figure around $60 for four hours....not a bad way to go.....but people bitch at you, and overall a lot of customers feel that they're better than you.

The ones without attitude are hard working and fun. Other types are snooty and slow witted.

Truly it's a better job than flippin' burgers. You don't come home with a film of grease on your body, I'm thinkin' your boss is a little less cranky and there is no Ball Pit. If you want to improve your chances of getting a job there, spend that extra hundred dollars on cool frames for your glasses.

Oh wow. I don't drink coffee, I guess I'm really screwed here. Hot Chocolate anyone?

They're very friendly, for the most part, and I appreciate that in the morning, but it's not a job I aspire to do myself.
Neo_Baptist: Resurrection 07/14/2008
They are obnoxious.

I don't have enough tattoos or body piercings to do this job.
Seems like a typical service industry job, with all the crap that comes with it, except you get to sneer at your customers when they mispronounce "macciato"
Automatt 05/21/2008
It seems like a lot of work.
