put a lot of coffee grounds in an old fashioned strainer, place over a thick ceramic mug, pour hot water over it. voila! hot, fresh, black, strong and unsullied with any other fixin's. not fancy, not expensive. just the good stuff. God bless juan valdez

I don't drink it for the taste, strictly the narcotic effect, so in most cases this will do. Dark roast, black, no sweetener. I like to get it hot and wait for it to cool to my preferred temperature. And I'm as cranky as Goldilocks at that time of the month until I get my fix.

I like my hot coffee black. Since we don't bring white sugar into the house anymore, I've tried different sweetners. Molasses is a little gamey. Sucanat (100% raw, unprocessed, nutritious sugar) is better. Honey is easy to get used to. But agave nectar is excellent. I also use it in iced coffee, as it dissolves quickly...even faster than sugar. Very sweet stuff...

Update: If it's early and I'm groggy (like now), put whatever you want into it and just splash it in my face...

unless I go to a specialty coffee place. this is what i get regular house coffee. i like mine with double cream and sugar. of course some coffee is better than others.i have had coffee that tastes like it has been sitting there for days. others quite good.

I live in a city with a host of independent coffee houses, many of whom import, blend and roast their own beans. Almost any of them make better coffee than the pretentious dreck poured at the chain houses.

My preference in coffee is hot, black, unsweetened. I don't want milk or sugar distracting me from the caffeine rush.

In fact, the way I feel some mornings, I'm surprised I bother to dilute it with water.

I like a strong bean so I can make strong coffee without being bitter...

Just enough to get me going in the morning, with hazelnut creamer.

I've never been a connoisseur-- I've always thought about coffee like I did about beer. If the beer gave me a buzz, and wasn't repulsive tasting or "skunky", I was ok with it, whether it was Budweiser, or Michelob, or Molson, or whatever. Same with coffee. If it has sufficient caffeine in it, if it wakes me up in the morning or keeps me awake at night when I need to stay awake, then I don't care if its Folger's or Maxwell House or whatever. It's ok with me. I have little patience with places like Starbuck's, where you need an interpreter to order a cup of black coffee, and generally need to extract a small fortune from your wallet to pay for it once you have successfully ordered. I also disdain places like Dunkin Donuts, where I think you pay 2-plus dollars now for a lousy cup of coffee. I used to drink a ton of coffee back in the day, which didn't help my nerves or my insomnia, so as I got older, I made a conscious decision to cut down. Currently, I have 2 cups of coffee when I get up and that's it. I drink a lot more water now and find it sometimes to be more invigorating and certainly more refreshing than I ever did coffee.

I love Maxwell House (Original) with CoffeeMate creamer. I'm not a big fan of a lot of the flavored favorites growing in popularity, just give me old-fashioned caffeine enriched coffee.

I like regular coffee for the most part- Maxwell House and what not...When I'm in a chain coffee house, which is rare nowadays, and they try to sell me some pink foam foolishness or something, I say you bourgeois pigs throw that stuff away and give me some goddamn proletariat coffee. When I'm in an artsy one full of trendos that want a medal for having green hair and Scissor Sisters cd's I say hand over some ordinary coffee or I'll sick some working/ lower middle class people on you. I'm a bit twisted but I just want some regular coffee...
