catchy new songs and some American traditional gems!

Very good soundtrack, and well matched to the movie. The Coen Brothers pay a lot of attention to detail in their movies, and seem to take a lot of care with the music. This is one of their best efforts.

I'd agree with Franks concerns, but in the context of the film this is excellent work.

A handful of stellar performances and a great primer to 20th century American folk music, but as an overall listen, I find it a bit af a hodgepodge to sit through.  The soundtrack to the companion concert film "Down From the Mountain" covers the same thematic ground with improved results from the warm vibe of a well recorded concert setting.
