More than anyone else, Auerbach embodied the Celtics. As a kid growing up a Sixers fan I was taught to despise Auerbach and his cigars, even though it was unclear exactly what he did. Not only did Auerbach build one of the successful franchises of all time, but he was also a big part of building the NBA into what it is today.
