Roy DeMeo 5

Described as one of the more prolific serial killers in America, DeMeo headed a vicious crew for the Gambino family that was feared by some of the most fearsome guys in NY. Killing was a group activity that DeMeo seemed to use as a "bonding" experience between himself and the young thugs who worked for him; the victim would be lured to the Gemini Lounge, where he would be subdued, occasionally tortured, killed, eviscerated, chopped into pieces, and the pieces disposed of-- generally in the roiling, turbulent waters near the Triborough Bridge. Nobody was safe from DeMeo and the members of his crew; they even schooled members of the vicious Westies Gang in what became notorious as the "Gemini Method." While DeMeo was ferociously homicidal to a degree unprecedented even in the annals of organized crime, he was smart, a shrewd and unscrupulous businessman, and knew how to make massive amounts of money. He dealt in stolen cars, and the sickest kinds of pornography (child porn, bestiality, etc.). Because of his ability to generate income, he was tolerated by the staid Gambino boss Paul Castellano, at least until there developed worries that he might crumble under increasing pressure from the authorities and "squeal". In 1983, DeMeo's frozen body was found in the trunk of a car parked in Brooklyn's Sheepshead Bay. He had been shot several times, assuredly by one of his young and trusted acolytes, and, somewhat mysteriously, a chandelier had been left on top of his body. He's buried in St. John's Cemetery in Queens, known as "The Mafia's Boot Hill" because of the numerous organized crime notables buried there (Carlo Gambino, Lucky Luciano, Carmine Galante, Vito Genovese, Joe Profaci, Harry "Happy" Maione, etc.). DeMeo's grave marker is unobtrusive, and the name "DeMeo" is hidden behind a shrub. Two worthwhile books have been written about DeMeo; "Murder Machine" by Gene Mustain and Jerry Capeci, and "For The Sins of my Father" by his son Albert (Albert, while not denying his father's homicidal abilities, writes that he was a good father). Albert is also selling clothing and items that once belonged to his father on ebay, for anyone interested in such grisly relics.

Roy DeMeo will most likely end up at the top of this list. One could say that if anyone was born to kill, it was him. The details of brutality are chronicled in the book Murder Machine. When the time came for DeMeo to go away, the contract floated around because nobody wanted to do the hit, not even Gotti. DeMeo and his crew murdered nearly 200 people in all.
