Nondescript Mafia thug who was fatally shot while chatting on the phone in San Diego. The Mafia in California was often disparaged as the "Mickey Mouse Mafia", and Bompensiero pretty much exemplified and justified that contemptuous appellation. He was certainly brutal when it became necessary, and for awhile became the "man in charge" in San Diego, as well as an informant for the FBI. Was friends with fellow mobster Jimmy "the Weasel" Fratianno, who also became an FBI informant, and San Francisco Mayor Joe Alioto. Also had family connections to the Balistrieri crime family of Milwaukee. At one time he was involved in a failed underworld plot to assassinate Desi Arnaz because Arnaz produced TV's "The Untouchables", a show which angered certain upper-level organized crime figures. Thankfully, the plot never went beyond the planning stages.
