I'm not much for "pop", but Stevie Wonder took popular music wherever he wanted to.I can't say I even like or even know all of his stuff,(his output in the 70s alone was voluminous) but what I like I like A LOT. I guess it's his funky stuff that moves me the most : "Superstition","Higher Ground" the one about "writing something nasty on the wall (you nasty boy!" stand out in my mind.I also love the song "As",which is a beautiful, moving song about "I'll be loving you always".Another thing I have to admire is the fact that not only did he write lots of good music, but he often played EVERY or almost every instrument you hear on his recordings.Drums,Bass,Keys,Guitar, you name it.Not many people in the WORLD can do that as well as he.

He had a unique sound I suppose. Technically excellent I would be willing to bet. You really can't prove it by me though because when it comes to music I just like what I like and usually manage to remain unburdened by the opinions of the heavy duty experts. I recall enjoying some of his tunes but not to the point that I developed a need to own them. He was radio listening good.

I know I am in the minroity here, but I never was a fan of the nasally, head bobbing Stevie Wonder. "Sir Puke"?

Stevie was Bad in the 70's, possibly the baddest man on the planet. His string of albums from Music of My Mind through to Hotter than July made up one of the 5 best bodies of work in the decade and nobody told him what to play or how to play it.

Stevie is a very talented musician and singer, with a string of timeless popular hits spanning three or so decades. In general, Stevie does a straightforward pop style that I can really appreciate. In TV appearances, he comes off as a very laid-back, down-to-earth guy.
