He may be just a cartoon character, but I guess we can all identify with the idea of trying to achieve something but inevitably failing. Heck, he wasn't really trying to HARM Tweety, he just wanted to eat him, just to eat a bird, like cats do (in cartoons, anyway- I don't have a cat, so I don't know ;). Anyway, we all love the classic Warner Brothers cartoons for, well, I suppose for their comically verbose dialogue and memorable characters, and Sylvester is one of those memorable characters. God bless Isadore "Friz" Freleng, who directed the majority of Sylvester-Tweety cartoons.

Ahhhh, sufferin' succotash! Nobody has ever been more frustrated than Sylvester. Oh, okay Elmer Fudd and Yosemite Sam probably run a close 2nd and 3rd. Still, for some reason I find myself having more sympathy for this slobbering, nutsy little cat. It's not that I really WANT him to catch Tweety - I'd just like to see him come out on top some time, some how!

Poor Sylvester, all he ever wanted was a Tweety Bird sandwich. What decent bird eating cat would want less. I think I would have given up several coats of fur ago though when I realized I was no match for that bird. “Dumb ol puddy tat”. The classic Sylvester and Tweety episodes were the best. When they ventured off to the giant mouse/kangaroo stuff Sylvester became the poor dumb cat getting the crap beat out of him, I liked his sneaky plots better.
