This is okay, so long as "different than you" encompasses one who is white, Christian, southern, conservative, or any combination thereof. Usually helps if they are male as well- unless their first names happen to be Nancy, Laura, or Sarah. Other than that....yeah...making fun of others is a bad thing.

Nobody here does this?? No black jokes (or white jokes) when you're around a circle of friends having a beer? You don't whisper to your girlfriend when you see teenagers dressed in goth at the mall? Git said it very eloquently...we're all douchebags.

I think when people make fun of others, they're facing insecurities themselves. There's not a person around that can say that they're perfect. Everybody has a flaw about themselves, I don't care who they are. The next time a person feels the need to make fun of somebody they should take a good long hard look at themselves in the mirror.

only shows what a real horses rear end they are. pick on someone if you do not understand them or if they are "different" for any reason it gives them the "right" to make fun of them humiliate them. I always hope that what goes around comes around and they get a piece of their own back.

LJF you make a good point (if I may quote you here) "The next time a person feels the need to make fun of somebody they should take a good long hard look at themselves in the mirror." Having done so, and enjoyed a good laugh at myself, I feel that it's only fair to laugh at others as well. Tis true that everyone has flaws... but I am the most perfect me that I can muster, and have yet to find a more perfect version of me in existance. Should I find her, I'd laugh my arse off at her anal attempts at perfection. Besides... if we can't enjoy a good laugh now and then, what's the point?

That pretty much makes all of us douchebags at one time or another.

For the record, since I get these messages too often, I know I'm a Star Wars geek. Pointing it out gets haters nowhere. Still, I continue to get these messages from people about how stupid my lightsaber apparently looks to them. I'm comfortable enough in my skin to post the stuff, so why would I do anything but laugh at the fools who consider my legendary geek status a downer? Think about it...

I tend to think that people who make fun of others are very insecure, or maybe they see something in the individual that reminds them of themselves.

Reminds me of a morning radio D.J. that I listen to occasionally. He doesn't have the perfect body and is out of shape but doesn't mind complaining that certain women need to lose weight.
