As a Christian, albeit one with many shortcomings, I struggle with this one. Part of it stems from the belief that God at times allows these tragedies to occur in our lives so that we might grow and learn from them, become better Christians. I found little comfort in this when my grandson Nathan passed away. I don't want to be told that it was Gods will that my grandson died so that we might grow and learn. To what end? If there is something to learn, for Gods sake stay out of it and let them discover it on their own.

Having said that, I don't think a Christian telling this to someone struggling with grief and tragedy qualifies as a douchebag but it is completely tactless, self serving and thoughtless. Perhaps an insensitive moron would be more appropriate.

i know they think they mean well but i find this insensitive. for example a tornado takes out part of a town. lives are lost homes lost devastation. I do not think they need to hear that it was  "God's will"  that certainly is not comforting.
