U.S. Virgin Islands 4

I am pretty sure they were good to me because I was a tourist and they wanted my money, didn't interact much with the locals.

U.S. Virgin Islands 2

The last time I was there was around 20 years ago and this was a pretty paranoid place. There was a man who had paid some large bucks to place billboard ads all over the continental United States. They said: Beware. I was robbed in the Virgin Islands. This was one of the ports-of-call on my honeymoon. I was robbed in the Virgin Islands. Pirates cruised the Caribbean and the White people on the island of Charlotte Amelie lowered their storm shutters at night. On the ship, we were given brochures of the shopping district, but the map dissolved outside this area. Well, we rented Mopeds and went for a ride. They got us over famous Megan's Bay. Wallets. Camera. Spent film. Watches. Jewelery. Credit cards. Passports. Everything except a few hundred dollars in traveler's cheques that we had left in the cabin. We flagged down a school bus driver who called the cops for us. He showed up on a Yamaha a few minutes later, but when we pointed down the rode where the thieves had disappeared, he clearly stated that he had no intention of going down there after them and escorted us back to the station where we filled out a report and were clearly advised that we'd never see any of our stuff again. The police were receiving threats from the local Rasta thugs and on the blackboard, in large print were the words...a reminder of a threat, "On December 12, all White people will die here". Nice. When we got back to the ship, I went to see the Purser, who was unsympathetic and refused to even cash a check so that we could enjoy what was left of our cruise...until I threatened to sue the cruise line for not warning us about the dangers of going off the map that they provided us with. I'm sure that there is no connection here, but when we went to see the ship's Purser about the gold and diamonds that we put in their safe...it, too, was all gone and they had no record of any of it. Not even our receipt was convincing enough.

Louie is pretty much right. The small businesses on these islands are dependent on tourist bucks. They hold their breath between dockings and inhale as much as possible when the tourists spill out of the ships. Hope y'all have/had a better experience down there...I felt like Clark F. Griswold

I can only speak for St. Thomas...but their livelihood depends on tourism so yes...they are very friendly.
