Another sports icon of my younger days shuffles off this mortal coil and joins the choir eternal.
Damn I feel old sometimes.

For some reason I'll always see the opening of ABC's Wide World of Sport with that ski jumper tumbling and falling off the side of the jump ramp to the words "...the agony of defeat..." when I hear Jim McKay's name.

Made the best olympic coverag for ABC. Even as he ages, he still looked handsome the last time I saw him.

Jim McKay was a great sportscaster, and unfortunately for me he did much of his work before my time. He was well known for covering the Olympics and horse racing, and was the broadcaster who covered the hostage situation at the 72 Olympics for 14 hours straight. He worked late into his career and I remember him during coverage of the Triple Crown and the Olympics. He graduated from the same high school as I, and is a local legend here in Maryland. He lived a full and eventful life, and will be missed by those who appreciated his work.
