On August 16th I called salesperson Gladys regarding a cross country move of items from Los Angeles to New York City. I spoke w/ her at length & she gave me a final price quote of $1155. This quote was based on a detailed list I had compiled of labeled, various, standard size boxes (purchased @ UHAUL/Public Storage- 54 boxes, a medium sized bookshelf & an end table), so it was exact in terms of the number & size of items. She assured me that was the final price both verbally & via email (which I still have on file) as I made it clear to her that I did NOT want any monetary surprises. The LA pick-up was scheduled & I had a friend unlock the storage space for the movers to get in. These movers were NOT from Eagle. They were from Hercules Moving Systems. The 1st thing they told my friend was that it was going to be double the price that Gladys had guaranteed me. I called Gladys & spent no less than an hour on the phone w/ her trying to get information on what had occurred. After the hour of back & forth w/ Gladys & then her manager Dan & these movers from this mysterious new moving company, the movers agreed to the original price. I had NOT been told at ANY point by Gladys that her company actually outsourced to another moving company. The movers then packed all my stuff on the truck & told my friend that she had to sign a contract in my absence stating that if the truck couldn't get down my street, I'd have to pay 300 dollars for them to rent a smaller truck. I live on a large street, had items that fit in a small Uhaul truck & thought little of it as it was explained nonchalantly but I expressed to Gladys via email about this fee & she assured me there would be no additional fees again. The week that the stuff was slated to arrive I received a call from Hercules Moving Systems (the people who actually moved the stuff - not Eagle who I signed my contract through) who told me that I needed to call the city of NY to see about getting a 72 ft truck on my street to unload my stuff. I called Gladys again not understanding why I was being contacted by this other company, or why there was a need for such a large truck for so few items, or why I (not a moving co representative) was being asked to call the city for a service I had already paid for & this $300 issue. Gladys promptly told me she couldn't help me w/ this anymore & transfered me to Dan. I was not able to get in contact w/ him initially.On the day my stuff was set for arrival I felt as though it had been highjacked because the movers would NOT release it until I paid the $300. Again, I emailed Gladys & the new moving company & explained that I had already paid for the service & had been assured by Gladys that $1155 was the final price. No one responded. I called Gladys' manager Dan who berated me, screaming & yelling that it's custom for people to pay for a smaller truck to get on a residential street & that he couldn't help me. I said to him that Gladys & I had spoke at length about surprise fees & she assured me that $1155 was the final quote. He screamed that he didn't know what to tell me & that I had to pay the $300. I asked him why hadn't anyone told me there was this fee when I signed the contract w/ Eagle on 8/17 & he said everyone knows there is a fee to get smaller trucks on the street. I reiterated calmly that I specifically asked Gladys about any additional fees & she said there were none. I ended the conversation telling Dan that I would be contacting the BBB & asked if he could give me his last name & the address of his company. He wouldn't give me the information. In order to get my stuff I was forced to pay the additional $300 despite my contract w/ Eagle that did not express this fee, verbally or written. On top of it all, the delivery was re-scheduled twice, causing me to miss hours @ work & several frames & vases that were wrapped in bubble tape & cloth were broken.

BEWARE! Any positive reviews you see here were surely written by the company. They broke many items. They repeatedly lied to me. They were repeatedly late and did not call when they said they would. They were consistently rude on the phone (after they got my money). They stopped returning phone calls as soon as they got money from me. They even lied about their Better Business Bureau rating. Look it up: it is an F, not the B+ they will claim. They are the worst moving experience I have had--and I have moved a lot.

Third class company. BEWARE, THEY ARE CHEATERS. They are liars, first they will give you WRONG ESTIMATE, then they will NOT DELIVER YOUR LUGGAGE ON TIME, quoting we are still in contract. MY WORST EXPERIENCE IN MOVING.

They are crookest of all moving companies. Unfortunately, I was on a tight budget and decided to go with this cheap company. I regret this now after leaving me in tears of frustration. As soon as they arrive, they make you sign this lil box that says that they will pay you .60 cents per pound for lost and damaged items that it is written in boilerplate language and fine print. This is where they con you. They can lose the majority of your things and they are only responsible for paying you .60 cents per pound of damaged items.
During transit, my things are transferred from the original truck to another moving truck and of course there are lost items and damaged furniture. I lost over 700 dollars from my medical books that were located in one of the lost boxes and all they are responsible for paying is a misely .60 cents per pound, legally.
They are rude over the phone and in person. My movers arrived at my home speaking Hebrew thinking I didnt know the language, which I know minimal but enough to feel distraught after hearing their conversation. They called my belongings the equivalence of trash and how my trash was going to get destroyed in transit. I also over heard them conversating what will be the new adjusted price for my move. Once they loaded all my things in the truck they gave me a new estimate almost twice as much as the original. I should of at that moment called it quits and request that all my things be moved back to my home. Unfortunately, my desperate measures to quickly continue on my timeline move got the best of me and decided to continue. This will be one learning experience for me. Learn from my mistakes and don't do business with HERCULES!!!

Hercules is terrible! We were supposed to get a call on Saturday August 1st about our pick up time the next day and never received a call. We called them on Sunday the 2nd in the morning and they made a few calls and advised us we'd have our stuff picked up that evening around 5 - 7 PM. Around 8 PM we still hadn't heard or seen anything from Hercules so we called in again and they were closed. We called first thing the morning of the 3rd and were given the number of the driver to make arrangments ourselves, which were delayed by a couple hours but finally they came and got our stuff. In fairness the movers were nice enough, but we were still really agitated at this point. So contractually we, as the customers, are held to all sorts of standards, if they determine we have more than we said we get charged, if they determine we have more stairs then we get charged - however in our contract Hercules only holds itself responsible in two areas, first - they state they will give us continuous updates on the status of our belongings. We have had to call them for every update other than one, which was to say they tried to pick up our stuff (very small amount of stuff, by the way) but it wouldn't fit on the truck. The second part of the contract regarding their service is they have 16 business days from the first day we said they could deliver to actually bring us our stuff. So technically, they have until Wednesday of this week, it is a Monday, and we haven't heard anything. Please save yourself the headache and do not use this company.

All the negative reviews that are here are real and true. They are a scam artist. I had my quote increased by 40% on the day of the move and delivery date delayed for weeks!!!! Do yourself a favor pay more and get real service and real professionals to do the job. I wish I found this site before I signed on with them but the sales rep did such a good job lying about how great the company is that I'm surprise she could live with herself working for such a company. You have been warned!!!

I would have to agree with reviews prior to the "oddly high number of perfect reviews"....my girlfriend recently moved across the country by herself, and was slapped in the face with these movers refusing to deliver her stuff upon arrival.

1) Blatant rudeness on the delivery driver who actually said "well your address is not in my GPS, so I cannot find it. You will have to pay $300 to rent a Uhaul and come get your stuff. I will not deliver". -outrageous

2) Customer service would not answer the phone but 1 out of 15 times. The golden answer came with outright bitterness and simply saying "sorry, we cannot help you".

The delivery address is on a Major city bus route. You have got to be kidding me...

Like all forums, be wary of mass "PERFECT" reviews lumped together. If I were a 3rd rate company, I would probably have the integrity to flood reviews with falseness of superior customer service.

Go with another company, spend a few more dollars, cause it will cost you more in the end.

Just moved my mom to NJ. We had a great move thanks to the Hercules guys.
My mom is very old and there was no way to make an inventory of everything she had to move so we asked for a visual quote. The next day the manager of the branch (!) came to her house and was so kind and helpful. He explained to her how to pack efficiently to save space (and money) and at the end of the day gave us the best quote (after beating another company that came a little cheaper…)
The move itself went great, the guys were in and out in no time and they even helped her to pack some last things with no extra charge.
She was very happy and so am I.

I moved to California with the family about 2 weeks ago with Hercules and I must say that it was great.
It is my first time to use a moving company and I was surprised for the best.
We got a pick-up window of 3 days and the guys came on the second day. They were very kind and went over all the paperwork with us. Since I was driving with my wife and kids it took us a little bit longer to arrive to CA than the movers. They didn’t fuss about it and kept our stuff in storage until we arrived, than delivered it all.
I had one box with a small dint, like it fell or something but nothing inside was broken so it was all good. Except that all of my furniture arrived in the same condition they left…

I moved with Hercules on May from Oregon to Florida for my new job.
I was happy with every single aspect of the move.
The movers came first thing in the morning and carefully moved all my items. They took about 3 hours to load everything (we have a 2BR apt). The guys were very nice and professional.
During the delivery everything went great as well. All of our belongings arrived safely and with a very reasonable price.
Regarding the pricing and the customer service; every time I called I got all the answers to my questions. All the representatives were very nice and helpful. I’ve never moved before so I wasn’t sure what to expect, I was afraid that the price will exceed the initial estimate but the price was fixed and the service was the only thing that exceeded my expectations.

I and my husband just moved to Georgia from CA with Hercules. The move from the beginning to end was impeccable plus we even ended up paying less than the estimate!!!
I am very happy with my move and will refer my family and friends.

Terrible, first they called the day before they were supposed to pick up our stuff and said they wanted to come that day, against our better judgement we said ok, first they said they would give us four hours then they called back and said they would be there in one hour. So we rushed to get everything ready and ended up leaving stuff behind. The driver was very unprofessional and was yelling at his coworker and threw packing tape at him. we were moving from washington state to pennsylvania and told them we wouldnt be in pa until june fourth, the driver called us on june second and wanted to deliver our stuff to our storage unit that day. Then we told them we would need twenty four hours notice for them to deliver our stuff to the storage unit . and we told the driver the storage unit was closed on sunday and they called on sunday and said they wanted to deliver that day. we told them we had to do it on monday, when they did come forty five minutes late on that monday, they called my husband and said they couldnt deliver to the storage unit because we didnt tell him that he had to go up the hill and then he hung up on my husband. We had to track down the truck and then rent another truck to go pick up our stuff and then drive the truck we had to the storage unit and unload the truck ourselves. We tried to contact the office and couldnt get anyone to return our calls for days. When we did get a return call we were told that the driver had a completely different story and were practially told that we were liars. We would never use this company again and i would reccomend that others not use this company!!!!!!

My wife and me just bought a second house in Illinois and moved some of our furniture there.
I choose Hercules to perform our move because I used them before for a small local move that I did for my daughter and they were excellent.
This time everything went great as well. My new place has special floors so they actually used covers and plastic to protect it.
I have a very heavy gun safe that I wanted to move and was very concerned about how they are going to handle it. They actually carried it in my new home (it is an 800lbs safe!) so the floor won’t be damaged.
I would say that my satisfaction with my move and this company is very high.

I had a great moving experience with Hercules.
I am a student and had to go back to my parents’ house after graduation. I thought I am going to have a very small load to move but some friends of mine decided that they want to move back home as well and we ended up having a full large truck filled with goods… not to mention that we moved from the same place to different houses once we got to our destination... we thought it is going to be a huge problem… but it wasn’t!!!
Now, we are young and strong, but those guys were amazing! The move took us 3 days total, a day for packing the truck, a day for driving and the third day to unload everything to our different locations. The price we ended up paying was a lot cheaper than any other large company we talked to (they warned us that it is too low and that we will be charged more- which wasn’t the case at all!) but the most amazing thing is that we were about 10 people sharing the truck (you know, we are students and each one of us didn’t have many stuff but all together it was a lot…) and we all got our stuff, nothing mixed, nothing broken, all exactly how, when and where we wanted.
Again, great company!

My wife is 9 month pregnant and we have another baby at home. I had to be in Arizona to do all the necessary arrangement for our move and my wife stayed in San Francisco to take care of the move but like you can imagine she couldn’t get much done…
Anyway, the guys from Hercules came to move us and we hardly had anything packed…
they packed it all for us!!! My wife told me, but I couldn’t believe it until I saw our stuff in Phoenix, they packed everything so nicely, with such care and gentle hands it was great to see. My wife was happy and got the help she needed.

I was worried using a moving company for my move but didn’t have another choice.
I just lost my job in CO and had to move back to my mom and dad in CT. since I began my research I got bombarded with moving companies and didn’t know how to choose… like many people I did my research online. I choose a company that had A rating with the BBB and had the lowest rate ( Hercules had the 2nd best rate but poor reviews online….)
So the day of the move came and I was all packed waiting for the mover s to come and pick-up my stuff (did I mention it was my last day of the lease on my apt?) when I didn’t hear anything from the movers by 3pm I got worried and called them, they said that the movers are on their way and will be there in 30 min.
At 5pm when there was still no sign for the movers I called again but THERE WAS NO ONE IN THE OFFICE!!!
Of course I panicked! I had to leave the apt by 8pm!!! I called my contact in Hercules and he practically saved my life. The guys came at 6pm sharp and got the move done in 2 hours, just in time for me to drop off my keys and hit the road.
I got my stuff 10 days later in Connecticut. I’m sure that when I will find a new job and move back west I will use Hercules again.

DO NOT USE Hercules!! I had read a lot of poor reviews on them however they were so much cheaper I thought I would just use them. BIG MISTAKE. I was originally going to move within the state however changed my mind to move across the country. I called for a new quote and was told it was the same "no matter where you moved because most of the costs were in the picking up/delivering of the items". I asked how that could be true because of gas costs and she told me again that I didn't need a new quote. Of course when it came time to move my stuff it turns out she lied to me (I had a feeling about this) and I had to pay an extra $300 to get my stuff. When they came to get my stuff they charged me an arm and a leg in packing materials even though everything was already boxed up. Turns out anything you have (desk, dresser, etc) they will not move without it being wrapped in blankets and then covered in tape...I was never told this or I would have bought tape myself instead of being charged $5 a roll from them. I also ended up having 2 more boxes than I thought and they told me for each small box it would be $150 extra...WHAT?!...so I threw the stuff away...the box was a small book box...why was it so much? They also charged me $50 for a flight of stairs and $75 because it was considered a "long haul"..but get this...they moved EVERYTHING except my tv over the balcony! No stairs, no long haul....yet I had to pay for those things. Upon delivery I was told I could get a long haul for free but if it wasn't a long haul I could not be reimbursed. Anyway, they took my stuff to storage and that was fine for awhile. I asked if I paid monthly or ad the end and they said I could pick. I chose to pay at the end. One day I randomly got a past due invoice and they told me if I didn't want to pay late fees I would have to pay my $500 storage fees right then. I asked why since I told I could pay at the very end and she basically said too bad. I FINALLY got my stuff moved across the country (a week later than expected) and something was missing. They told me if it shows up they will call me...but if it doesn't...oh well! Basically, do yourself a HUGE favor and pay a little bit more money for a better company!!!

Please do not use this company. I moved from Topanga, CA to Appleton, WI September 2007. The communication between customer service and dispatch and the actual movers was poor. The movers showed up in Topanga at the wrong time with the wrong size of truck, then charged me extra for shuttle service which would not have been necessary had they simply showed up with the proper-sized truck. When my possessions arrived in WI, the movers opened the rear of the truck and possessions tumbled out. My bookshelves were ruined as was my antiquated lamp shape, and my bed frame and CD/DVD/VHS holder were very noticeably scratched. To top it off, I'm still (5/1/09) waiting for them to send me a damage claims form. All in all it stands as one of the very worst experiences in my life thus far. . . . And that statement is not exaggerated.

I thought I will write a few words to thank these guys for excellent move. I can’t believe that the reviews I am reading here are for the same company I moved with… Because of my line of work I travel and move a lot. And this last move with Hercules was definitely the easiest one I had. Start with the fact that all of the companies that moved me in the past gave me an ESTIMATE for my move cost and then on the date of the move charged me for the “actual” weight of the shipment (that was much higher than the estimate of course). With Hercules I got a binding price for the ITEMS that I moved so I know to prepare the finances I will need for the move in advance and I didn’t have any surprises. I paid exactly what the sales rap told me I will pay! Second was the amazing service. I had some personal issues around the date of the move; I moved around the dates back and forwarded, changed the list, the destination and always was accommodated with a smile and a helping hand!

THIS COMPANY SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN - TOTAL CROOKS
Unfortunately I didn't do research before hiring these people, but now after my horrendous experience, I read they are rated F by the BBB and the Yelp reviews are unanimously BAD. They routinely give people one quote and then either after loading the truck or upon delivery of the goods, tell the customer another price, usually two times as high or more as the original quote. We were quoted $1,800 for a move of a 1br apt from Bay Area, CA to Iowa. AFTER the truck was loaded, we were given another price of $5,500! We were charged over $800 in packing materials alone and the vast majority of our things were already very well packed. If we had known this was going to be the price, we would have decided to have a garage sale instead. I felt so helpless ... we were moving my 75 yr old mother after she had a stroke and this experience almost gave us both another stroke. It was such a stressful time in our lives that I wasn't thinking straight .... and I was totally had. I still don't know if everything that was packed actually arrived, because it was put into storage and their 'list' of things was pretty much illegibile. One page of 'boxes' wasn't even numbered, they just drew an arrow down the page and told me that represented 50 boxes. Then the whole delivery game ... this is also consistent with other reviews I have read, unfortunately only after my bad experience. They give you a timeframe when your things 'should' be picked up and delivered, but those dates dont' mean anything, so if you actually have a job and commitments it would be nearly impossible to connect with these people on either end because there's no planning or commitment involved. Then once they had the highjacked goods loaded up, we were told the items would NOT be delivered directly to IOWA, her things would be completely UNpacked into a 'holding facility' at an undisclosed location, along with other people's belongings (No WONDER PEOPLE'S THINGS GO MISSSING) Until such time as they had other people's things going to Iowa, whereupon her stuff would be loaded onto a larger truck ... so all told, my mother's stuff was loaded at our house, unloaded at some holding site, reloaded onto another truck, then unloaded into a storage facility in iowa which will have to be reloaded for her actual move once she establishes a place to live. WE all know how much wear and tear a move has on furniture .... well ... i'm just thankful my mother didn't own anything of actual value furniture wise, but it's all she has! and she's attached to it. Upon delivvering the things in Iowa, the movers demanded cash (now isn't that just FISHY????) and removed the blankets they had used to move her things ... otherwise we'd have to buiy them for another few grand! So now my mother's furniture is sitting in storage w/o protection. If they had told us this, we would have covered the furniture in other wrapping! The whole thing was just insane and even getting our money back wouldn't erase the horrible experience from our lives .... but we won't get our money back ... because I don't think it's worth our time, but i'm writing this, taking time out of a vacation day to warn others, DON'T DO IT ... AND PLEASE CHECK REVIEWS BEFORE YOU HIRE A MOVER!

I moved from CA to TX and had to have my furniture stored for 2 months by Hercules.

When they came out, they gave me a great overview of how this would work and that my household would be well taken care of...in fact they said I did not need additional insurance - well it was a NIGHTMARE and they LIED.

Every single piece of furniture and every lamp (8 total) was damaged to some degree or another - many items broken and had to be thrown out. They lost a couple of boxes with my items, and when they finally arrived in TX with my things, the people they brought with them did not speak English and the Hercules rep sat in the truck cab as it was a hot day. Eventhough my boxes were labeled as to which room they belonged in, they ended up in the wrong places - I was left to deal with the mess. Also, they got some kind of grease on the boxes and that ended up in my house also.

I filed a complaint and they determined that all the damage was worth $400 - what a joke - NEVER AGAIN! If you like your things - think twice before hiring this company.

All arrived in the time frame they provided me but more important the quote was binding and there were no over charges and they were all very nice and friendly. Complete scam and horrible service.

This company is terrible my stuff was suppose to arrive weeks ago and one of their service representatives told me that they would probably show up next week. Ridiculous three weeks to arrive? I should have moved the stuff myself. Absolutely terrible.

This company takes longer to move stuff then a turtle on speed. I know for a fact that it can only take a day and half to drive across country non-stop. So if you include stops, then maybe three days max. It's now been around 2 weeks and still not have received my stuff.

Well, as several of the other comments have stated, this company appeared to be a decent, legit and above all professional moving firm. Looking through the online testimonials, as the hero of the web that I am, I based my decision on these alone. Bad idea. I should probably have tried to get a hold of some of their previous real customers, as I am still sitting in my empty Boston apartment while their rude customer support with clearly no motivation to help anyone keeps giving me new delivery dates every time I call, on a shipment first scheduled to arrive several weeks ago. I have mixed feelings about the delivery, as I on one hand would be glad to finally get my stuff back, while on the other hand I am nervous to see if, 1; all my items arrive, and 2; if it is all still intact. I had a lawyer friend of the family look over the contract (which I should have done before I decided on using this travesty of a company), and it turns out the contract in many ways removes them from any kind of responsibility for the delivery time and/or item state. At this point, it would actually have been easier and less expensive to rent a truck and drive it down here myself.

Moving companies have a bad reputation for bait-and-switch style business where the cost or time of moving is grossly underestimated by the salespeople, then jacked-up after they have gained possession of your property. I choose Hercules after seeing their multiple websites and the positive reviews by MG1977 and Douglas. However, after contracting this company, I've spent the last month in an empty apartment despite the fact that my furniture was scheduled to be delivered three weeks ago. I realize now that all of the positive reviews were written by dummy-accounts by owners of the company; most of which were registered on the same day. Describing my experience won't do me any good. They have my property and may never actually deliver it. I've checked with a lawyer, and there's basically nothing I can do because of their contract terms. Nevertheless, I feel that I have to do what's right, and prevent anyone else from being taken in by these schweelers.

Awful, awful service. It took them four weeks to move my stuff from California to Kansas and I still haven't received several of my boxes. Trying to contact them and find out where my possessions are has been a total nightmare. Never, ever use this company.

Just an absolutely terrible moving company. I moved from San Francisco to Boston two weeks ago, and I still don't have my belongings.

NEVER EVER USE THIS COMPANY!!! They did not honor their binding estimate (I had to pay an additional $1700 approx), they were late in delivering my items, the driver was rude and kept demanding more money, many of my items were damaged, and the movers refused to move trash out of my apartment that they created. The company has been unresponsive to my attempts to complain to them. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.
