There was a real Hush-Hush magazine, which was a Hollywood scandal rag of the 50s and 60s. The Hush-Hush magazine in LA Confidential, however, is actually based on the real magazine "Confidential" which was the kind of gossip and scandal magazine that makes the National Enquirer look like the Washington Post. It combined salacious innuendo with barely enough facts to prevent a lawsuit (although they were sued relentlessly) with a racist and arch-conservative bent.

It sounded like a fun magazine. I suppose it was not the nicest. It was fictional, but then when I look it up there really was one. It had that air of truth about it. That would be in LA Confidential.
