This being a relatively recent heresy, one can't point out that it's been predicted as coming soon in the same way that one can say the second coming has been coming soon for two millenia.

I always thought God would want to do it at a completely unexpected time. Just so he could go "Didn't see that coming, did you?".

Most definitely. Now, soon is a relative term which can mean today or within the next 100 years.
