Not an excessive amount, but I had my share of fights. I lost some; I won some. I wasn't particularly big, but I never backed down from one. Once, in junior high school, I pushed another kid I was having issues with the wrong way into a metal locker, he split his lip wide open, bled like a stuck pig, and I was suspended from school for awhile (it was unintentional, believe me; I was terrified when I saw him bleeding). I was worried my parents were going to be enraged, but, surprisingly, they weren't. They basically told me, "Look, sometimes you have to do what you have to do, even if it violates the rules. You have to defend yourself." Truth be told, I started working out with weights in my late teens so I would look more formidable to potential opponenets and they wouldn't be so quick to start something. It must have worked, as I haven't been in a fistfight since my early teens. Still, I occasionally do wonder how it would go now if I had to. I still try to keep in shape, but time continues to march on no matter how hard one tried to impede its "progress". A few years ago, I was in a bar with my girlfriend, a female neighbor, and her male friend, who apparently enjoyed mixing it up when he got a few drinks in him. He and I got along ok, but out in the parking lot, he got into some altercation with another guy he knew, and began pounding him. I instinctively starting running over to break it up, and both my girlfriend and neighbor shouted out, "NO, ED, DON'T, DON'T!!! STAY HERE!! DON'T GO OVER THERE!!!" I was a bit chagrined (not to mention drunk) and thought, "What were they panicking about? Did they think I was going to get my ass kicked? Am I that out of shape?" Thankfully, the fight broke up seconds after it started, and I didn't have to find out the hard way. Still, I've contemplated since then joining a gym, and taking some re-fresher training (I boxed a little bit and did some martial arts as a teen) just in case I find myself in a similar situation sometime in the future.

A few, but not too many. None after grade 10 until I was in my twenties.

Rarely. By the time you reach HS you should be over such stupid behavior. But I did have this one incident with a guy who was bigger than me and it was ugly. I gained the reputation as a dirty and nasty fighter and he left me alone to pick on someone else.

Nope. That was what I did in the Marines. I got into more fights in four years than the rest of my life could hope to provide. Factor in the fact that I have two older brothers and that fact becomes even more impressive...
