UPDATED SEPTEMBER 30, 2009: The latest, of course, was watching the Stimulus Bill pass on C-Span.
ORIGINAL COMMENT: I have seen several including a stabbing in the street outside the Rosebud west of the Loop.

Witnessed quite a few back in the old Greenwich Village/Times Square/Coney Island days.In cases where someone was being assaulted, streetsmart folks would go to a payphone and call in an "officer in trouble", giving an address about a half block from the action, figuring to get an instant response - and perhaps save a life - whilst scaring off the perps without getting anyone in trouble.I've personally broken a few laws, but I've never done anything that would be considered criminal in a sane society.

Outside of the ones I committed? Probably the most serious I personally witnessed was a guy who had just gotten stabbed as we were driving by. It was in the yard of a housing project, a small crowd had begun to gather, and the victim was sitting on the ground with the blood from a stab wound to his torso turning his white T-shirt red. For all I know, the guy (s) who stabbed him was (were) still standing there. It was broad daylight, and, if I remember right, we were looking for a bar or liquor store willing to sell us some libation. I remember slowing down, not really sure what my reaction should be...do I offer the guy a ride to the hospital? Do I continue to gawk like some morbid ghoul? Do I call the cops? Or do I get the hell out of there as fast as I can? I don't want to blame my "decision" on my friend, but when he yelled, "Jesus, let's get the f*ck outa here! Step on the gas, man!" I didn't hesitate. I stepped on the gas. I never did learn whether the guy survived his wound or not, or whether they caught the guy (s) responsible, but that image of him sitting on the grass, blood pumping into his lap, a shocked, dazed expression on his face, has never left me.

More than a few, mostly assaults and shoplifting. And in my juvenile delinquent days I committed a few too. And at least once during my political career I abetted one.

We were at the mall and were sitting in the food court. This guy goes into Sunglass Hut carrying a baby on his shoulders and starts talking to one of the sales people. Shortly after, a woman comes in and pretends to look at some of the sunglasses. Suddenly, she snatches two pairs of sunglasses, most likely very expensive, and casually walks out. The man carrying the baby soon joins her and they both got away. Nobody in the store knew what had happened until someone that was nearby told them. Later a cop came and tried to find them but were unsuccessful. . Apparentley, the man carrying the baby was supposed to be a distraction and the lady stole the sunglasses. I feel sorry for the baby because he was used as a distraction for the crime.

Yes, I saw a guy run out of a convenience store with a six-pack of beer on his shoulder.
