The Canadian Broadcasting Network is a public system, in that it is under the control of the government of Canada.  A favorite network to crap on, often deservedly so, for its (at times) bizarre programming, it gets a bit of a bad rap.  Its news department is often very good, its sports coverage, while having declined in recent years has sometimes been excellent, and some other news related and public affairs shows are thoughtful and excellent. 

Its when they get into "entertainment" producing bad knock offs of US sitcoms that they're bad.  Parochial, unfunny and badly made.
