I guess it makes sense, but it sounds more like a way for some people to try to build their ego. Being considered "trusted" or a "friend" or one of several other options on this list sounds good, but I'm not so sure I want to have a "following." I'm just writing reviews, not leading a cult.

Being a Twitter fan, I think this is precisely what makes sense, but I'm curious about the broader appeal since it has kinda similar connotations to "stalking" in the broader vernacular sense.

Okay okay. It's not *actually* the opposite of "follower." But, twitter uses it that way. And "followed" is even more confusing, I think.
