Jason Taylor traded to the Redskins 2

This is a move that in retrospect backfired on the Redskins.  Sounds like Parcells knew what he was doing when he traded him off.  Jason Taylor was injured half the year, probably because he was out of football shape, and when he was on the field, he was playing out of his natural postion and was very ineffective.  He had only 1.5 sacks on the year, a career low.

Taylor is an outright liability in run defense and is most likely losing some of his speed, which is important for a pass rusher of his caliber.  I remember in 2007, during Taylor's last season with the Dolphins, he would consistently draw offsides during 3rd down plays where it was obvious that they were going to blitz.  Usually speed rushers try to get off the line early to gain that burst of speed, but sometimes, especially when their skill set is in decline, they try to get off the line even earlier to make up for that loss of speed.

Taylor whined the most about Miami's situation last year, being 1-15 and all, but he was one of the culprits that lead to that dubious distinction. It wasn't all bad personnel moves (the team after all went 11-5 this year with almost 55% of last year's roster returning!), nor was it all bad coaching. Because Jason attracted so many offsides and the occasional unsportsmanlike penalty, the defense had to stay on the field for long periods of time.  And last year's defense couldn't stop the run for its life, which meant that once the opposing offense got back on the field, they would normally score after pounding the ball down the Dolphin defenses throat through clock-consuming drives.  That in short was the story of Miami's 2007 season.

In retrospect, the Dolphins are in better shape for getting rid of Taylor.  He's clearly in decline, and they got great value for him, a 2nd rounder.  This was yet another in a bad string of business decisions on the part of Daniel Snyder, who believes that a team can be more effectively built through pricey free agent veterans as opposed to through the draft.  Taylor is just another free agent bust for the Redskins.

Another over-priced hire by Danny-boy of the Redskins (inside football fans get the reference) Once again, an NFL owner thinks he knows more about football than he really does. Ahh. . .Jim Zorn- "Hip, hip, HOORAY!" No playoffs.

Its not very often that All Pro defensive ends get traded. Players like Jason Taylor are game changers, and they don't become available that often. Old school Bill Parcells apparently had problems with Taylor and his Dancing with the Stars appearance this past offseason. So he was determined to get rid of his team's only great player from last season. Washington has been a borderline playoff team the past few years, and this might be the type of move to push them to the top of the NFC. Defensive line was easily their worst position group the last few years, and Taylor's presence will make everybody there better for the Redskins. Strahan and the Giants showed the NFL what a great D-line can do for a team. Perhaps Taylor can have that kind of effect for Washington in 2008.
