Amazon is offering $100 on the Kindle if you sign up for their new VISA Rewards card. I went through all the application process, for this limited-time offer, just to find the process doesn't take a minute or so for processing but rather 7 to 30 days. I only signed up for the card to get the $100 off on the Kindle so I was really irked that the approval might not arrive in time to use it to purchase the Kindle. I also don't want to wait to purchase the Kindle so I think this offer is a big come-on to get you to sign up for their credit card. The Kindle iteself is great. I use the one I have every day. I like it so much I wanted to get another one to keep at work since it would only cost about $260 with the Visa offer. Amazon has really ticked off this Prime customer with the delay in credit approval--especially since my credit should not be an issue.

I've had the Kindle for over six months now and can't say enough about it. It is incredibly easy to use and very intuitive. I have a mild vision impairment and the ability to change font sizes is wonderful. The clarity of the letters on the page is incredible and there is no backlight to strain the eyes. The matte screen itself picks up very little glare from over head lights. It's so easy to find books to read and even easier to acquire them--no trips to the store and no shipping costs. The storage capacity is huge--I have ten books on my device right now and still have extra space. The weight savings alone (vs. carrying around ten books) is worth the cost. One thing I especially like about the Kindle is that unlike many wireless devices, one can even use this on an airplane (with the signal turned off, a separate switch than the power switch). A few things worth mentioning: it is somewhat difficult to handle because of all the buttons on the edges. The back cover of my Kindle comes off too easily, causing it to slip out of the protective cover. There's no way to put the back cover on without mashing various buttons, so the device must be turned off to do so. Also, I would recommend putting the power switch on the front of the device, making it more easily accessible. And it would be great if there were a built in clock or time display somewhere on the screen. One last thing: hopefully in the future there will be more books available on Kindle. Right now most new releases are sold on Kindle but older books are not as available (namely many classics). I'm looking forward to many happy years reading with my Kindle!

I bought the Kindle for my wife who has always been an avid reader, but can't read most paperbacks because of the small print size. Since she isn't too computer savvy, the wireless feature was also a key attraction, although I was skeptical of its capability. I have been amazed at how easy it is to download content. My wife fell in love with it from day one. The only negative feature is the overly sensitive RH page bar. Just the slightest touch will inadvertently advance one or more pages. A minor annoyance but the next version hopefully have a little more resistance built into the page bar. Otherwise a great product.

I'm a true bibliophile - love the feel of a book in my hand, the sheer joy of finding a book I can't put down, the art work on the covers, the admiration for really wonderful authorship. Several of the qualities I enjoy about books and reading are missing from the Kindle, of course, but that doesn't stop me from using it as an adjunct to my other reading pleasures. Some books are just "brain candy" and don't need to be kept forever on my bookshelf. Others are the kind I read mostly for information and are nice to have available for occasional referral, even when I'm not at home. Some I read just for the heck of it to see what the fuss is about. The main reason I love Kindle, though, is how I can carry a whole slew of reading material with me when I travel, or when I'm just out and about with the possibility of having a few minutes to fill with reading. If the wireless connection is turned off, my books are even available while in flight. It has saved my luggage from going over weight, too, as in the past I've had to get books out of my suitcase to get the weight down. With Kindle that's just not going to happen! I find it easy to read and easy to operate, too. I just loop the elastic over the lower right corner of the Kindle when it's inside the cover and it stays put without interfering with any of the control buttons. Being able to order directly from the Kindle is just genius - though I do have to watch my budget!

I simply love my Kindle. It has traveled with me to Sweden this past month and it was awesome to have all my books on it while there. To all of you that are surprised you can't use it outside of US of A...it clearly states that, and shouldn't be a surprise. I simply downloaded a few extra books for my monthlong trip, so I wouldn't run out of reading material. I even downloaded a few kids books on it, so I could have reading material for them ( 8 and 3) as well, the selection of childrens books aren't great, but that is equal with all ereaders, not just Kindle. It is easy to use, lovely to read and so very practical. I have only charged mine twice since I got it in june-08 and I have read it about 2-3 hours daily. I have a lot of peeps in Sweden that are feverishly awaiting something like this over there, people in Sweden read a lot, so heads up Kindle folks, make it available there and it woulkd make a huge success. Again, you can't go wrong buying this great piece of techie equipment. Petra
