We've visited this list before. . .and nothing will top the massacre at the '72 Olympics (one would hope) but this event does deserve attention on the list.  This jackass kicked the face of a referee after the match was over.  Yes, Olympic officiating (in many sports) hovers between serviceable and terrible but nothing (nothing) justifies the attack on an unsuspecting opponent.  A true insult to the art of Taekwondo- an ancient Korean martial art practiced by some of the most disciplined people I know. 

It's pretty shocking.  Most athletes grow up with some level of fear / respect for the ref, at least at a level where they don't assault the person when things don't go their way.  The fact that neither Matos, Matos' coach, or Castro apologized for the action is pretty unbelievable as well.
