He has to be considered a good choice although he has in fact probably turned out to be a poor adviser. It is easy to second guess such a choice, but it was viewed as a good one in 2000.

I'm no Dick Cheany fan and it could be (and has been) faceitously suggsted this was Dick Cheney being named Republican presidental candidate by Bush as Cheney along with some others have aslo run the country for the past eight years. One could argue had Cheney decided to run for president in 2008 he would have had a chance at being the first four term president since Franklin D. Roosevelt. But although you could unfacetiously say that Gore won the election, it wasn't a disaterous choice that Bush made unlike the one his pops made in 88.

Dick Cheney is the only vp candidate, elected or not, who really has no desire to be president. That's the guy I would want if I was president.

This turned out to be like having Curious George and Moloch on the same ticket.

Actually, Dick (it's spelled Cheney) Cheney selected Dick Cheney. Dick was head of GWB's VP Selection Committee, and he won the sweepstakes. er, the Veepstakes. At the time, while I had not been a fan of Cheney's, it looked like a good choice. They did run the table of American politics, winning a narrow re-election with the most hostile press I've seen since 1973.
