Okay but uninspired choice. I don't know if anyone other than perhaps Reagan could have given Ford the lift he needed.

Bob Dole was a great choice and if the election was held two weeks later, the Ford/Dole ticket would have been elected, saving us from Carter's presidency, and better still, his post-presidency.

A pretty good choice because Dole had an edge that Ford didn't seem to have. Unfortunately for that campaign, they had to carry the Nixon legacy on their backs, and it was too much.
