Well, trying to balance a ticket with George Wallace on it would be like trying to hit a major league fastball blindfolded, so LeMay was probably no worse than any other possible choice.

Old Curt was a lousy political pick as his "I love the bomb" ramblings completely sunk whatever chance Wallace had.  Generals from Marshall and Eisenhower to Scowcroft and Powell have served us well in civilian positions, but I am happy we passed on LeMay.
