A very solid choice. He did not have executive experience, but had been in the Senate since 1917 and was the minority leader. He was a strong advocate of western electrical development and had authored the farsighted McNary-Haugen (sp?) Act of the 1920's which foreshadowed the New Deal agricultural policy by ten years but fell victim to a Coolidge veto.

Wasn't this the mayor of Munchkin City in the Wizard of Oz? Hard to think of a US Presidential candidate with a more ludicrous name. In any case, Roosevelt was just too hard to beat back then.
