Alabama Changes the Value of Pi 1

Lots of those old stories go around.  I heard as a kid that California's legislature wanted to help out its school kids so it changed pi from 3.141592 ad infinitum to 3.14.  Thus many equations would come out clean with no hanging remainders.

We thought it was great idea and we wondered why our own legislature wasn't so enlightened.

Alabama Changes the Value of Pi 5

This is probably my favorite prank (for sure, one of the most favourite) among all others on the list. I would accept this one purely as a practical joke, if I would not see the facts (unsupported) that Nebraska actually did try to pass a law fixing the value of PI at precisely 22/7, and Indiana tried setting the value of PI at 3.2.
So, may be, it is not so funny as it looks, after all?
