Love the password idea. Been here a few times. Some San Franciscans showed me this spot over a year ago, it seems to have become more and more popular (less of a secret.....so i will yelp it). Staff is very friendly and professional. The drinks are really good but a bit too pricey....14 dollar martini PUH lease. I want to be able to spin on my head for that sort of price. The atmosphere is 5 stars for me. Perfect for a date or getting a few of the girls together for drinks after dinner/before a night out. Music makes me feel like Judy Garland. I heard they are building another room as well....can't wait to see the creation of that.

Classy, Prohibition-era décor, with bookshelves containing real books. You need to know a password to get in. The drinks (at least $10 each) run on the expensive side but are unique, strong, and delicious.

A unique place. I was intrigued by the password idea. It is something that makes it unique from the other places in town. In the back "books" section that bar can get a little jammed and socialization can be awkward. This bar used to be a complete Tenderloin dive about two years ago and I'm happy to see a decent place here. The owner of Swig on Geary also owns this place. The Tenderloin is being pushed down a couple blocks and will keep moving down if places like this pop up.

It's a little over the top. There's no sign on the door. You need a password to get in. You have to have a reservation to sit down, and your reservations end after two hours even if you're prepared to drink another $100 or so. There's House Rules like "please speak easy" and "no cell phones." But the whole thing works. Something about Bourbon and Branch just feels like a special occasion. The service is great, the booths are really comfortable, and the cocktails are some of the best that I've had in the city - the Black Manhattan was particularly awesome. Once your two hours are up, the staff gently suggests that you retire to the "library" which is a back bar behind a "secret" door that looks like a bookshelf. Like I said, it's over the top, but a great and interesting place to go for some good drinks and conversation.
