Do not use pantene!!!! My hair has fallen out and has become noticeably thinner. This is a really sad thing when you're only 26 years old.

Thank God I am not the only one that thought this out. I was losing so much hair that I really thought that I was sick!! I thought that maybe it was because i was dieting and I had lost a lot of vitamins in my body or something along those lines. Thinking back I realize that I did recently change my shampoo to the "Beautiful Lenghts" because I am trying to grow my hair long again. I used a differend shampoo and Conditioner before. I realize that it is Pantene that has cause my hair to fall out. It has been so bad that even my husband was worried because he would see all that hair clumps in the wastebasket. I have strands of hair falling all over the house, even on my pillow!!! But since I started doing some research on the product, I came to the conclusion that there is nothing wrong with me, its Pantene. I will stop using it and see what happens, but I am very confident that I have found the answer. Thank you for all our personal expereince feedback. It was an eye opener!!

I adore this shampoo. Whenever I change shampoos, I never really go too long without switching back to Pantene. I love the variety and my personal favorite is beautiful lengths. It has a 2 in 1 with conditioner and I love the way it lathers! Definitely a must have.

I have been losing hair now for over a month. I have read and read about "stress and hair loss," "birth control pills and hair loss", and the list goes on. I honestly never even considered the idea that the shampoo I had started using could be the cause, yet every other reasonable explanation that I thought of didn't quite make sense in terms of the time frame. I have always taken birth control, so I thought, why now? I am always periodically under intense stress, which then subsides as deadlines at work come and go. So, I thought, I've always dealt with the stress before, why is my hair falling out now?

It actually just dawned on me tonight as I sat in my apartment with my boyfriend. The shampoo! Of course, why hadn't I thought of the stupid change in shampoo???!! My boyfriend has always used Pantene, while I have always used other brands. For some reason, the last time I was at the pharmacy, I just decided to get one shampoo and conditioner for the two of us.. Of course, I chose the Pantene like any good girlfriend would. It now seems SO clear that this has been the cause of the EXTREME hair loss I have gone through.

The most frustrating part of all, is that I have fairly thin hair to begin with. My hair had actually just gotten to a point that it was long, without looking too stragly. I got a great cut about two months ago, and was on top of the world. This, of course, quickly changed with the use of Pantene. Now, I am going to have to chop my hair to at least about shoulder length until it starts to fill in again. GRRRRR.. SO frustrated, but relieved I finally figured out what the problem was.

I have dry, thick hair, and I used Pantene shampoos for years. The hydrating shampoos were very effective at making my hair soft and non-frizzy. They may add a layer of "wax" to your hair, but I don't see anything wrong with it, because aren't all conditioners essentially waxy?

I've been using Pantene (the entire collection) for going on six years now, and I've always loved it. Before my hair was always breaking or tangled and I was constantly crying every time I brushed my hair because of how tangled it could get. Now that I've been using Pantene my hair is beautiful, shiny, and smooth...and NO MORE TANGLES! While I'm sorry for the women who's hair has fallen out, I've never had this happen. I've used Pantene with all hair styles, through dye jobs and curling irons and straightening irons. Nothing has been more of a help for my hair than Pantene, and it's the Shampoo and Conditioner that I swear by! In fact, Pantene is the *only* product I'll use on my hair. If you're curious and have never used it, I'd suggest buying some for yourself and giving it a try!

I have heard the floor wax comment many many times! Yes, your hair feels soft after you use it...but it is only because of the layer of wax it is leaving on your hair. That can't be good, right?!?! I guess if you are broke you can go for Pantene and at least your still washing your hair...but I would stay cheaper and head for the Herbel Essences instead.

Pantene always left my hair feeling like it was in good condition, but really it was just putting a wax over my hair shaft to protect it. For a while when I was using it I really loved, it and then I noticed my hair has no volume what so ever. I have thin hair and need all the volume that I could get, and I even tried the volumizing Pantene, but it did little to help. I think that the price for Pantene is good, but I feel there are other options, which are as good if not better.

Just like any other shampoo, except it's more expensive. Doesn't improve my hair nor worsen it.
I have very dry hair, but Pantene failed to hydrate it enough.

I can't really complain about Pantene but I can't rave about it either. It does give you some shine as advertised in the commercials and it was one of the first hair brands to advertise proteins and vitamins. However, the brand doesn't exactly "wow" me as I've found superior shine products out there.

As I sit here itching my head, I hope all who read this post will throw out their Pantene products, shampoo, conditioner, whatever is branded Pantene-throw it away out of fear because this a devasting product. My 13 year old daughter was transfixed by a Pantene commercial, the expert marketing grabbed her by the ponytail and she kept saying “Mom, I want Pantene!” So we got Pantene, both of us, different formulas for our respective hair needs. After three weeks I noticed that three times as much of my hair was falling out in the shower, however what was left did look nice, a bit of hair loss, ah well, my, my I thought, menopause is a beast, guess I'll get use to this change too. The next night as I was tucking my little sweetie into bed she said “Mom, I think Pantene is making my hair fall out” WHAT!!!! what a relief (I wasn't alone or going nuts) and horror to hear this from her! I told her my hair was falling out too! and I had thought it was all due to menopause! Our eyes bugged out of of heads and we decided on the spot to stop using Pantene. Our hair loss STOPPED when we stopped pouring that poisonous Pantene on it. My daughter didn't lose as much as I did, thank goodness, she has a nice head of hair. My hair is about half as thick as it was, and that’s not thin by any means, I have always had a lot of hair, that is till Pantene walked in the door with me. I'm telling everyone I can to stay away from Pantene. I think the last scab is healing on the right side of my head. Hallelujah!

Im having a good laugh reading this - Pantene is bad for your hair - it contain silicone that coates the hair shaft. at first it will look lovely and shiney but use after use i will start to go limp/dull and very resistant & yes it can cause brakeage to the hair. (this is the build up of plactic on the hair pulling the hair down until the hair can no longer take it and breaks).

It is a total and utter myth that if you dont have your hair cut it will fall out - i never herd such rubbish.

Pantene will stop the colour & perming process due to the silicon coating the hair.

I'm a mobile hairdresser and see so many people ruining there hair by using pantene i would never use shampoo and and certainly would not recomend my clients to use it.

I think McCain, Biden, Obama, and Palin all need to get together and pitch Pantene.  I think they would be better pitching Pantene than half the stuff they are trying to convince us with.  All they do are stump speeches.  Even in the debates, when they get questions, all they do is give the same stump speech without answering questions.  So let them all ptich Pantene.  Barack: 'I can't imagine using any other kind of shampoo.Pantene makes things better'

Biden: 'Hey, let me try some of that (steals bottle)...man, it makes my hair plugs feel great."

McCain: (enters room) 'Hey, what's going on....well, let me try some too, Joe.  I am a 'thermasilk' man but what the hell....hey, these bubbles are fantastic."

Palin: (grabs bottle--shakes)...."hey, there is no Pantene left in the bottle."

Obama: "hey, let's go down to the store and buy some more Pantene"

Obama, McCain, Pailn, Biden: "Let's go......."

There all lies...Pantene is great. Hair Loss, Rashes, Cancer, Hair Melting, etc....o' so many lies. Bottom line. Pantene is a great product with great results and i love it! I have been using the anti-dandruff shampoo every week and have not had dandruff since! NO shampoo is perfect..some frizz does occur but a nice, healthy look is still produced after using the product. Needless to say..i will be using it forever and will ignore such lies below and you should too!

I just learned about the effects of Pantene today, after a couple weeks of significant hair loss. Showering would leave enormous clumps of hair in the bottom, just running my fingers through my hair I'd get a handful of unexplainable healthy hair. Tonight my husband asked how long I've been using Pantene and tells me the association with hair loss. I thought he was pulling my leg, until I got home and started doing my own research. I see that you and I have lived the same nightmare. I am sorry. I have tossed all the bottles and have traded them for something more healthy for my hair and will hope for the best for both of us. Good luck and thanks for sharing your story.

i stopped using Pantene cause it caused my hair to start falling out like a lot of the girls/women in here. i hope i am speakin for some of the women who don't like this product that we have no reason to say bad things about this product just for the fun of it. going from having thick hair to thin hair is not fun and isn't a joke. i wish i had read the comments sooner regarding the bad effect of this product. to the one who Pantene had no bad effect on their hair, i'm happy for all of you, but for the rest of us, i hope you don't accuse us of being ignorant cause we are talking from experience. i just hope i could fix the damage to my hair (loss) that using Pantene caused

I have used the moisturizing hydrator 3 minute conditioner for the past year now, and the only time my hair has ever "fallen out" or broken off was when I neglected to trim it. Hair does this when you don't maintain healthy ends, ladies and gents. You can't always do this by using pricy hair treatments, sometimes you just need to wack off a bit at the tips and say bye to your dead ends.

The conditioner and also the shampoo plus cond., (for a fact) has made my hair fall out bad.  I'm not just picking on Pantene but several other brands as well.  I've had to give up using conditioner all together, as I've discovered other conditioner brands and 2-in-1's that also seem to make my hair fall out.

It's pretty difficult for me to not use conditioner as my hair is a little long and curly and tangles easly, but I's rather deal with the tangles than to have my hair come out like it was!

Perhaps I'm alergic to something in conditioner, but by my using shampoo alone and switching brands often, I have found that my hair hardly comes out at all.   Hope this helps someone out there.

What can I say...nothing , absolutely nothing good. And I am being polite. I have (had) hair , human extensions, and have had so for 3yrs on and off. And have used Pantene on and off during this time along with salon products. 2weeks ago I bought Pantenes new Beautiful Lenghts...omg.....on my fourth use of the product..everything melted!!!! And it smelled like a relaxer! I went hysterical. Neededless to say....I read the shampoo bottle thru tears..and there are ingrediants there are parts of relaxers and ether!! HUH??? My sister had to come over and recue me..if thats what you want to call cutting out chunks of melted hair and ripping out the extensions. When I called Pantene in the morning...you'll love this ladies--they wanted to know if I wanted 'REPLACEMENT COUPONS' For their product!!! Then they wanted to ask some health questions and one was how much I weighed???!!! And this is irrelavent to melting hair I asked?? do not purchase ,stick to salon retail..this is someone who is soooo sorry she did not!

You know I never was a believer about the Pantene Shampoo and its bad effects until now!!!! I have real thick hair and it just keeps falling out everywhere, in the shower my brush or just running my hands through my hair. I have never been so scared to wash my hair in the shower to see what falls out next. I'm glad i have read these reviews and am getting rid of my Pantene "extra straightening shampoo & conditioner and getting something better. Thank you all!!!!

Yes, I too am a victim of Pantene hair loss. I've always had thin hair, but lots of it - now I can see my part clearly and shiny when the light hits it. I spoke to my hairdresser about my hair loss and immediately she said "do you use pantene?" - because it makes your hair fall out. What she told me was that the silicone in it clogs your hair follicle (and may even destroy it completely) and this results in the loss of hair. I've completely stopped using the product and am very upset about it all!!!!

Pantene in bad for your hair beacsue it contains silicone, which is what makes your hair soft and shiny after the first wash. But with each wash the silicone builds up, only coating the outer layer but underneath your hair is actually deteriorating. I strongly recommend you invest in a quality shampoo, or ask your stylist what ingredients you should and shouldn't be looking for in a product. Once you stop using pantene your hair will be dry but once you get a better product your hair will get healthier and stay healthy in the long run

Wow, what a bunch of illiteracy and bad information here about Pantene. Pantene shampoo, Pro-V or otherwise, is just a good, reasonably high quality shampoo. Nothing more.

I've used it for over 20 years, and it does not cause my hair to fall out (my genetics do that), it does not cause cancer, it does not cause rashes, and despite all claims to the contrary, it does not cause infertility, impotence or incontinence. Nor does it contribute to America's loss of standing in the world, national debt, or the moral decline of our youth. :)

This shampoo smells great, but that is about the only thing it has going for it. It always leaves my hair oily and feeling dirty. I consulted a hair professional about Pantene, and she told me that it is really bad for your hair because the vitamins build up and damage your hair. I use shampoo from Spain, and it is called La Bella. It works way better than Pantene, and smells good. Please people, don't try Pantene, it is horrid!!!!!

After using pantene for months, I also started noticing that my hair wasn't as thick as it used to be. I started to research some of the ingredients that are in pantene and most other shampoos and come to find out there are chemicals that are known to cause CANCER. I use all natural and organic hair care now, and my hair has never felt more beautiful. I also changed my diet which can play a part in healthy hair. Go to your local organic store for real beauty products!

I used Pantene for years as it made my hair feel silky and smooth. But I noticed I was losing a lot of hair in the shower and on my brush. Looking at old photos I now realize may hair has about half the volume it used to have and fits into a much smaller barette. Is it the Pantene or is the thinning unrelated to that? All I can say is I have switched to different shampoos (Nioxin and Body Shop) and I have almost no hair loss now. Needless to say I will never use Pantene products again.

I personally have been using the Pantene Hydrating Curls system for 6 months. I use the Shampoo every wednesday and saturday, and the Conditioner every day. This stuff works fine for me, and never have I seen any hair loss that all these people are talking about! It smells great, and feels very light. My natural curls feel refreshed, and look defined. There is only a minor sign of frizz, on the days I use the Shampoo, but it's worth it to have your hair feel nice and clean 24/7. Pantene rocks!

Pantene is a commercial failure and lie. It does not live up to its expectations and does not give you gorgeous, smooth, shiny, to die for hair. I bought extra straight for my slightly wavy hair. And i can tell you that it is not 'extra straight.' I also hoped that the conditioner would smooth my hair and make it less brittle. But no such thing.

Pantene is horrible! Do not use unless you want a rash on your forehead. Pantene has only made my hair greasier and weigh it down. The chemicals stuck to my hair and my bangs sit on my forehead. Just a few days after using Pantene I got TONS of tiny bumps on my forehead. It looks horrible! Thinking that it was just acne, I continued to use Pantene for a few more days. I gave up at two weeks and threw all my Pantene products in the trash, drove over to the drug store and bought some Herbal Essence. You should do the same if you want nice hair without a rash.

Hi, I regulary colour my hair so I started using pantene Radiant colour just before Christmas and started loosing lots of hair down the sink, I didnt think anything of it as I have thick hair. The next time I went to the hairdressers- start of april my hair was so damaged it almost broke off. The hairdresser said the pantene was stripping my hair as it has the same chemical in it as industrial floor cleaner! She told ,me to use something gentle like herbal essences and since using it my hair is 10 times better.

My daughter used to have very thick, but somewhat frizzy long hair. I started buying her the Pantene products for anti-frizz some time ago and just recently realized how thin her hair has become. I took her to a new stylist who told us the Pantene products were a likely cause of her thinning hair, I felt awful for buying this for my teen. We tossed the products immediately.

I really like Pantene. I avoided it for a couple years because my stylist told me it made my hair fall out. But of all the other shampoos i tried (ranging from grocery store to salon varieties), i saw no change...I think the hair loss just looks worse than it is because my hair is pretty long, or could also be the result of a nutritional deficiency, either way, I've ruled out any of the shampoos (and I don't use any other "product" other than conditioner). The only time I've ever gotten compliments on my hair was while using Pantene, so since I love how it makes my hair feel, and how shiny it looks, I've switched back to it, and again am just as pleased as I was before (After 3 years off, I've been back a month). As far as acetone in the product, the ingredient list on the bottle of "Smooth and Sleek" Pantene Pro-V next to me states: water, ammonium laureth sulfate, ammonium lauryl sulfate, sodium chloride, glycol distearate, dimethicone, cetyl alcohol, cocamide MEA, panthenol, panthenyl ethyl ether, lysine HCL, methyl tyrosinate HCL, histidine, fragrance, polyquaternium-10, sodium citrate, hydrogenated polydecene, sodium benzoate, disodium EDTA, PEG-7M, trimethylolpropane tricaprylate/tricaprate, citric acide, ammonium xylenesfulfonate, methylchloroisothiazolinone, and methylisothiazolinone. As far as I can tell, I do not see acetone on said ingredient list, which is also known as propanone, dimethyl ketone, 2-propanone, propan-2-one and ß-ketopropane. The acetone used as nail polish and fake nail removal is used at 100 strength. To give "them" the benefit of the dout, even if anyone could find acetone in the product, it would likely be at trivial amounts. I'm guessing that was tossed out to scare gullible consumers. Sure, some of the ingredients sound scary. (they do in most commercially available shampoos). Also, functions of certain ingredients can be affected by the format it is used in (for example, as a salt), the concentration (for example, some things are beneficial in small doses, yet toxic in larger amounts), and also how the ingredients mix with the other ingredients (chemicals can mix well, literally not mix at all, or cause explosions, and everything among them), etc. I hope this helps people in making their decision for or against the product.

In my experience Pantene products work well for the first few applications and then they weigh my hair(loose natural wave--a ton of body, medium texture, medium density, with an average porosity level) down making it unmanagable and feeling lifeless and not as clean as I prefer. As a licensed cosmetologist (with 10+ years experience), I'm familiar with the ingredients on the back of the bottles. These products have a high level wax type heavy additives, which after repeated use, build up and tend to act like a magnet for trapping, dirt(pollution etc), and oils. Pantene may work for others, it doesn't work well for me.

My hair used to come out in clumps in the shower, but after I started using Patene's Ice Shine, it doesn't and it's silky and smooth. I'm not worried about my hair falling out after years of use, like everyone else seems to be spastic about, because I never use the same product for years. Meh.

Pantene 2

I don't know what makes this shampoo bad, but the buttom line is it is bad! People say it has wax, acetone, tones of other things in it. I agree, whatever Pantene has, it triggers hair loss. I used to live on it since it smells like heaven, but over the years I've noticed that this shampoo is actually bad. You be the judge, but say I didn't warn you.

I don't need to say what everyone else has already said...Pantene is horrible for hair.
