Michael Jordan 5

Michael Jordan was the most promienent and influential sports figure in the 90's. Kids and adults admired him and he was known for his flying leap dunks. He was creative and magical on the basketball court. Michael Jordan won games through his athletism, perseverance and dedication. Michael Jordan was not only one of the best basketball players of all time, but he was a great role model for the youth community.

I still don't think the Suns got a fair shake in '93, so count me as unimpressed by all the be like Mike crap...

Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time, and probably one of the top 10 athletes of all time. He was that good. But I myself wasn't a fan. I was looking for Stockton and Malone to win a ring in the 90s, and as far as I was concerned, Jordan was the villain.

None of his foibles (whatever they may be, I admit that I haven't kept up) that became grist for the rumour mill should diminish his accomplishments as an athlete. Like Tiger Woods and other athletes who are disgraced for their off-court/field behaviour, I think the issue to be examined is not 'how they fell so far' but instead 'why they were held so high'.

I think a lot of the problem is attributable to the fact that athletes turn themselves into a brand. When we pay for a piece of that brand, be it $150 shoes or $75 shirts and wear those labels as part of our identity, we feel an entitlement to the quality of the image.

If we were just interested in their athletic performance or even one step removed from that, the overall performance of the team that they are paid to play for, most of the nonsense about their behaviour would be gone.

From that standpoint Jordan dominated during his tenure with the Bulls and lead a team that was pretty unstoppable. It's not often that a franchise owner is interested enough in his team to assemble and maintain a dynasty these days.

Bird has well captured the magnetism of Sir Jordan. I wondered if he could be as portrayed back then. Rather sad he turned out a shit bird. Tiger and MJ are failed brothers. Nike lies!
