Boston Legal, which was originally a spinoff of "The Practice", has some of the best writing on television today. One of the few network TV shows that are watchable, although I believe the quality dropped off significantly in the last 2 years. Some of the new characters in particular just didn't come across as that believable, and that's saying something considering that most of this shows plots were fairly far out. The writers always produced captivating story lines, but in many respects Boston Legal ended up becoming a parody of itself. Whenever that happens, you know that the lifecycle of the program has run its course. I imagine that David Kelley is already working on yet another spinoff.

The last two months of Boston Legal (Nov2008 to Dec2008) have been the best television experience I've had in ages. Very challenging on many levels. I was put off, yet pulled in, by so many of their topics. This is television of which I am proud to be a viewer (and I don't watch much television). Thank you to the creators and the actors. You've done a great job!! I don't want it to end.

I once liked Boston Legal. A lot !! Until the writers turned a once respected Captain Kirk into a filthy old man who has nothing on his mind but spewing the dirtiest of thoughts from his mind. No longer can I watch this show with my family. No longer do I want to watch Boston Legal. For even with the otherwise great content, I can no longer listen to talk about hard penis', and other filthy sexual inuendo's. Writers have taken a very good show and ruined it.

It started out a very entertaining show but the writing has dropped off some as time goes by. Shatner and Spader are getting a bit too much of the show's air time and the rest of the cast is more a footnote now. Shatner's character has become too much of a buffoon and would have been dis-barred long ago. Still worth watching in spite of my coments.

Witty and wise. I love that it examines friendship and aging.

The delivery by James Spader and William Shatner during this show is priceless! Whether the scene if funny or serious these two are brilliant! The rest of the cast simply enhance their performance each week. And the new guy Chrisian Clemenson makes me laugh out loud. This is definitely a show that you should TVo if you can!

I understand why some people dislike this show and can't blame them. Probably for the same reason I love it. It is a mismash where the writers and actors have obviously been given much leeway. The interplay between the great James Spader and self-aware Shatner captures male friendship like no other (over the top be it may) Good topics in a blender of quick dialogue and lightning fast asides that talk to the audience which gives credit to the viewer that they will be smart enough to pick up on those references and if not, then - oh well. Worth watching and listen closely to. It is a much smarter show than many may give it credit for.

Shatner cannot act his way out of a paper bag, and never could! Spader puts on an affected accent and tries in vain to be funny. Bergen looks out of place and over-acts. Most of the rest of the cast as there for the eye-candy. The show stinks. I cannot understand why it ever gained such a following.

Until this year's episodes, it was one of my two favorite shows. But I think the writers are beginning to run out of good ideas and clever dialogue. Until this year you could always count on two trials per episode that concerned knotty, contemporary issues, and there was a touch of realism to them. James Spader always eloquently presented the liberal viewpoint, and the opposing party countered with the conservative viewpoint (though didn't always get the same amount of time or eloquence). Prodded some thinking about the issues. But of late the trial scenes have descended into attempts at humor, with Spader jousting with an idiot judge or engaging in sexual banter with a female judge. What happened to a more dramatic presentation of contemporary issues? Denny Crane/William Shatner has always been relegated to the clown, but of late that humor sags. Whatever happened to the Denny Crane who screwed up royally (e.g., shooting people) and semi-seriously blamed it on the Mad Cow Disease he was sure he had? And every so often he would say something that was quite intelligent and insightful, which lent some semblence of realism to his character--I could believe that at one time he really had been a capable trial attorney. But his situations have become forced and too farcical. The writers used to have a nice blend of drama and comedy going, which was unusual for a series and was its unique appeal, but they're trying too hard to emphasize the comedic lately. Instead of believable characters, they're becoming caricatures. I miss some of the drama involving other cast members. Remember the episodes about Rene Auberjonois and his daughter, who had a drug problem? Played as straight drama; not only was it touching, it made you feel the pain of each party as they struggled to do the right thing. Haven't seen any of that kind of drama lately, nor have I seen much of Auberjonois or Candice Bergen lately. I hope the writers get back on track; it would be a shame to see such a good series degenerate so far that they lose their hitherto loyal audience.

The best legal drama on the air, right now, and perhaps in decades. The chemistry between Spader and Shatner is wonderful to watch.

What in the world is going on with this mishmash? I hope these mopes all have their malpractice insurance up to date. Pity the poor clients! I notice a reviewer stated that hysteria results from watching this garbage. I hate to report that my trusty dog Fido became so hysterical by barking at this drivel, that he had to spend a week in a rehabilitation kennel!
xxxalin888 02/13/2007
Finally an episode without vulgar sexual innuendo's, and lots of great humor. If this kept up perhaps I could allow my 18 year old daughter to watch Boston Legal with me. The closest to an episode a family could watch that I've ever seen. You went where no other episode dare to go !!! Keep it up Captain Kirk....
Edd10 01/02/2007
On paper Boston Legal is technically a pretty mediocre show, but the inspired cult appeal of William Shatner, James Spader, Rene Auberjonois and Candice Bergen keeps me watching none the less.

Jumped the Shark early -- needed to remain more like the Practice
lisamc 03/30/2006
This is the only show I watch on a regular basis. I love it! It does exactly what a tv show should do, entertain!!
Doches Man 03/23/2006
Boston Legal has become one of my favorite programs in spite of the occasional barbs by the Liberal writers, but, the March 14th show (Stick It) was absolutely disgusting. Don't these people have enough intelligence to know that their popularity and success has been accomplished because Conservatives and Liberals watch their show. We have allowed them into our homes each week because of the entertainment value and now we get "beat over the head" with their Liberal agenda. As much as we love the show, we will not continue to watch it insult our values and bash our President. Tom J. Shepherd 324 Triangle Ranch Rd. Trinidad, TX (903) 778-4488

This show never fails to entertain. It has tremendous acting led by James Spader and the storylines are compelling yet funny most of the time. This is the only show I regularly watch.

Boston Legal is the only show worth airing in the last 15 years, The Sopranos pales in comparison. People who dislike it are either feminists or have had their minds dulled by the dribble the networks have been doling out for decades now. Never have i had a show I could not wait for syndication to watch. I honestly pity those unable to enjoy it.
wpb1310 12/28/2005
I loved this show. God is it funny, however it turned into a Hollywood political message blog show. Hollywood needs to realize that they cannot always write shows for California and New York. My TIVO has canceled my season pass. Sorry

This show is brilliantly written! Great casting and fun to watch.
John Garrahan 12/14/2005
The best show on TV (Dec. 2005). The pendulum from comic absurdity (think Scrubs) to earnest examinations of the weightiest topcs of the day (West Wing) makes this the best hour of my TV week.

Tonights episode, 12/6/05, of Boston Legal was absolutely hilarious!!! I laughed so hard! The bedroom scene between Denny Crane and Alan Shore was really funny. But even funnier was the next scene between Mark Valley (I'm glad he is getting more air time) and the other female lawyer (I've forgotten her name), charading as FBI agents at a Church, was so well done and unexpected, it had tears rolling down my face. Please keep up the good work. Boston Legal appears to be getting better and better! A truly great show that I hope stays on for a very long time.

One of my very favorite evening drama programs. I just got turned onto it near the end of last season. The cast is intriguing and they all do such a superb acting job. James Spader is humorous and his new secretary, played by Betty White, is turning into a character with more than wit. Who would have thought that dear Betty could kill someone - but it was all so realistic and even understandable. Can't wait to see the next episode!
rekbear 10/02/2005
Absolutely the best...the wit, the charm, the quirkiness makes the show. Spader and Shatner are to die for as is that young new attorney. Can't wait to see what happens between him and his boss. Wow what chemistry! Just hope ABC didn't mess it up with the date change.
long9562om 09/12/2005
It's in a bad time slot this season and that is a shame. Boston Legal is the most fast paced, well-acted series on television. It contains compelling storylines and is quite humorous. I highly recommend this program.
anniko 09/09/2005
One of the best shows on TV!! I can't figure out why more people aren't watching. It is SOOO funny but it also has deep, heartfelt moments. GREAT SHOW!!
Kruelty 08/23/2005
Love the wit of of the show. Never miss a single episode.
ellis 08/15/2005
Absolutely hysterical; I just hope ABC doesn't cancel it due to future hits.
MIkeY "Crane" 08/13/2005
In the first episode Denny Crane says What's the point? Questions like that will kill you. Exactly don't watch this show with a critical eye, watch it for the smart a** Shore, the pathetic Brad Chase. And of course Denny Crane.
cathy4thcb 05/18/2005
too many antics; not enough character
Tweazer 05/09/2005
I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!! I've laughed till I cried and just plain cried. The writing is fabulous. The humor is intelligent. Spader and Shatner make an incredible pair. PLEASE, keep this show on the air!!!!!
doobrah 05/08/2005
I'm a big fan of James Spader, but thought he was given more dramatic possibilities when the show was The Practice. Now he's relegated to silly stuff with Shatner & Candice Bergen. Give Mark Valley more to do in this show besides act constipated.
Tulsigirl 05/08/2005
Anyone who says that they don't like Boston Legal has not really watched it. I've introduced several friends to it & they also love it. It has a nice balance of hilarious comedy and intense court drama. Also, William Shatner will become known more for Denny Crane has been great casting. There is the same to be said about all the other actors! ! ! As you can tell, I LOVE THIS SHOW! ! !
TeenyF 05/07/2005
I really don't understand why ABC renewed this one. I liked The Practice but this was just one big disappointment.
youngymmot 04/30/2005
Love this show!
Tecno 04/13/2005
This show is hiarious, I've been in tears with laughter more times than I can count!
Pickett56 03/17/2005
Combine Shatner silliness with Spader's smug humor...throw in the PC of Candice Bergen and David Kelley's left-wing propaganda and you've got a mess of a show. Couldn't cancel it fast enough.
StaggorD 03/16/2005
Boston Legal is currently the best show on television. A great cast headed up by James Spader (was great in Secretary) and William Shatner (Captain James T Kirk, nuff said). There hasn't been a duff episode yet, and the recent introduction of Candice Bergen and Betty White its sure to keep improving. This is probably William Shatner's best acting yet (although he was great in all the Star Trek movies). Let me leave u with those two combustable words...DENNY CRAINE
Captain Jag 02/11/2005
Absolutely THE BEST show currently on tv!
Estoy 01/18/2005
Denny Crane. This is a catch-phrase. Uttered by Captain Freakin' Kirk. Despite this, it's a really good show. Soon, very soon, Denny's going to start killing people. Alan will get him off. Why? Alan Shore.

Early indications are that this could be L. A. Law for my generation.
