As a story its really nothing special, but as a part of baseball history its significant. I loathe the pinstriped ogres from the Bronx, but their home is one of the shrines of the game, and its closure leaves only Wrigley and Fenway standing from the first great era of ballparks. While it had its flaws, and was by no means the modern amusement park that places like Jacobs, or AT&T or Safeco are, being there on my few visits felt like visiting sacred ground. (The fans, of course, could sour that idea in a hurry.)
