Three is a very high rating for BR and I am not sure it would hold up on inspection.

Brooks Robinson of the Baltimore Orioles (1955 - 1977) established modern standard of excellence for third basemen, setting Major League records at his position for seasons (23), fielding PCT (.971), Games (2,870), Putouts (2,697), Assists (6,205), and Double Plays (618). Hit 268 career homeruns. Named to 18 consecutive All-Star Teams. MVP of the 1970 World Series. American League MVP in 1964.

With out a doubt the greatest position player of all time. Impossible plays were just a days work for him. Balls other players would look stupid going after he gobbled up with seemingly little effort and throw across his body like no bodies business. His ability to charge a ground ball and bare-hand it was pure magic to watch. And while his bat may not indicate high status, he got hits when they mattered most. In the 1966 World Series the Baltimore Orioles blew away the Dodgers in 4 straight games with the awesome hitting and fielding Brooks Robinson. In 1970 the Big Red Machine proved to be no match for an Orioles team set on avenging '69's loss to the Mets. The Birds took the Series 4-1 for their second title behind the MVP play of Brooks Robinson who made several plays for the ages at third and batted .429.

NOBODY EVER fielded his position better than Brooks fielded the hot corner. This is not up for debate.

Brooks Robinson made the most ridiculous defense plays look routine. Just unbelievable reflexes. 16 gold gloves and no one ever did it better. Just take a look at the 1970 world series when he single handidly won the championship with both his bat and his glove. Pete Rose said Brooks played 3rd like he came down from a higher league. He's the best 3rd baseman ever to play the game. And he's one hell of a human being.

Brooks Robinson only hit .265 even though he was perhaps the best fielding 3rd baseman of all time
