As irishgit said, yes, there are shades of gray in most things. However, there is still such thing as good and evil- no gray area, though it is no longer popular or "en vogue" to say so. Murder, robbery, molesting or otherwise harming a child- these are evil...no gray area.

"The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he did not exist."

Evil--I rooted for the aliens to suck Tom Cruise dry in War of the Worlds.

While its comforting, perhaps, to see the world as good or evil, black or white, its also simplistic to do so.

Most things, most people are shades of grey, with both good and evil elements.

I know that doesn't make things easy, but where does it say its supposed to be.

A very common rivalry. Naturally, I'd have to go with "good"!

Very few things are purely good or evil; most things are shades of grey. Nothing is perfect, or good, and every cloud (bad) has a silver lining. Make the best of every situation, but always be prepared for the worst regardless.

While I think that issues relating to good vs. evil should take priority-particularly in times of blatant terrorism,I don't think this is more true today, than in 1952-when 'High Noon' was produced. I also don't think that there has been a better,simpler-or clearer take on good vs. evil. The film divides(and defines) its characters into basically three groups-the bad guys, who are led by Frank Miller-a paroled murderer looking to settle a score with Sheriff Will Kane, played by Gary Cooper;the people of the town of Hadleyville-a mix of bystanders, cowards and pacifists, and of course,Kane(Gary Cooper),who turns his wagon around, with his avowd pacifist wife(played by Grace Kelly)and heads back into town-as the one man obsessed with good and evil, who isn't a coward and isn't about to let evil take over his old town, regardless of what its citizens think. In any case during the concluding showdown, with only four bad guys about to take over the town, even Grace Kelly renounces pacifism by blasting one of the bad guys who was about to shoot her husband and registers a moral critique of pacifism-consistent with Leviticus(19.16)-standing by while your neighbors blood is shed.
