Walter may very well be the greatest. He played on some horrific Bears teams during his prime, yet he produced Hall Of Fame numbers. He would get to the sideline and then turn back and look for someone to hit. He always finished his runs. Walter was a class act on and off the field. When I think of Walter I think of class.

Jim Brown should be in the number 2 spot behind Sanders, not Payton, but Payton is a really good back......

everyone knew he was gonna get the carry and he still dominated

Numbers don't lie. Speed, strength, and durability was almost inhuman. Plus- he could throw the ball as well! Payton wasn't just the greatest running back- he was a class act who is sorely missed. I'm glad I saw some of the best years of his career.

Thing I liked about Sweetness is that when he got to the sideline he'd run over the fool in front of him for a few more yards rather than go out of bounds like a sissy.

Probably the best all around RB. He was also one of the most admired and likable personalities in all of sports, another example of way many peoples biases against atheletes are wrong.

The man could punish a defender harder, pound for pound, than any back I ever saw. I'd give the number one spot to Jim Brown, but this guy was a hell of a runner.

Walter was a great back, in the kamikaze style that Jim Brown had admired, often sacrificing his body for an extra yard or two. Brown was #1, but Sweetness was a worthy warrior.
