No one did it better. Having Montana and Young means nothing, either he's the best or he's isn't, and they got four other options. If you had Jerry Rice, would you run the ball and have a running friendly offense? I know what hotel283 is saying but that changes nothing. I don't blame him for playing as long as possible, this whole media inspired legacy ruining myth means nothing.

Great athlete with a great knowledge of the game. So fast and strong he probably could have been a RB or a DB. Plus he's a true gentleman who made those around him better players. However, I cannot rate him the absolute best. Firstly, he had Montana throwing to him for years. Secondly, he benefitted from the West Coast offence which is friendly to receivers and the '49ers were using it before other teams really knew how to defend against it.

The best I've ever seen.

Jerry works at it, and that made him what he is. He's lost a few steps now, but in his prime all you could do was double him, hope he didn't burn you anyway, and hope that Joe would not be able to get it to one of the other members of that fantastic team to burn your silly ass. UPDATE: What is wrong with the world? As I write this Jerry is second on this list. ARE YOU ALL HIGH? Anybody who has not given Jerry Rice a five should get their head checked. Stats and championships don't lie.

Well, this list is really only necessary to rate #2 on down because there is no doubt who is #1 and there may never be one. Look at Rice's numbers compared to any other receiver. Look at his longevity and how successful he has continued to be. There is no question- Jerry Rice is by far the greatest receiver ever.

A big Cowboy fan who feels that if Rice is not the best of all-time, he is among the top three. He is disrupting his legacy somewhat by refusing to realize when it is time to say goodbye, but that really shouln't disrupt what a big-time player he was in the late 80s and 90s.

Though this is an esteemed list of the greatest wide receivers who ever put on cleats, I think Jerry Rice was probably the greatest. The numbers are truly amazing: 207 touchdowns, 22,895 receiving yards, Super Bowl XXIII MVP, 1987 NFL Player of the Year. But what makes this former Mississippi State standout so great was his uncanny work ethic. Jerry Rice never rested on his physical gifts. Meticulous about preparation, Rice studied the tendencies of opposing defensive backs, played practice drills with game intensity, and worked a spartan-like conditioning regimen which once put running back Ricky Watters to tears. He was and is simply the best. And playing in a team which included quarterbacks like Joe Montana and Steve Young only served to enhance what NFL history later confirmed through its 75th Anniversary all-era team.

Its not that you can't make a case for anyone else, if you isolate elements of the qualities of a receiver, its when you look at the total package, it's hard to see anyone but Rice.

i never really liked him personally and he played most of his career with two teams that i detested, but there is no question that he is the greatest, most dominant wide receiver that ever played the game.

He's my all-time favorite. The numbers, the big games, the big catches. Yes, he is a pain in the ass selfish person- but you can't take away his greatness.

Lol!Are you kidding me Denver?Anyone who does not rate Jerry a 5 is foolish!Great hands, good speed, perfect routes, fearless over the middle, openfield runner and even a pretty good blocker. His longevity, due to a great work ethic is unparalled in history. The stats do not lie and his records are untouchable.

Jerry Rice is the only person on this list who deserves a 5 star rating. He is on a level that is far and away greater than any other wide receiver.
