I have a '99 Durango, It runs great but after a decade of use, it's starting to break down little by little. I love the Durango, It has everything one needs. 5.9L Engine, Lots of power to tow or to just rumble in the city !! Great car , I need a new one of those !!

2005 SLT 4.7L 41,000 mi. - bought new and no problems yet
The 4.7L is plenty for normal driving and passing even when loaded down with passengers and cargo. I've towed my 28ft. camper one time with it though and it only seemed like JUST enough, so if you got something HEAVY to haul or want to REALLY waste gas money and go fast get the 5.7L. My co-worker tells me his v6 3.7 is pathetic compared to mine.
MPG on my sticker was 14-19 which I consistantly exceed, I also (in a sense) pimp it everywhere (not to bad though) unless I'm in a hurry. Do hurry hurry rush go go now every time in town and it's more like 13 mpg so I quit that unless needed. My last long trip was 215 mi. with the cruise set at 70 mph. I used 10.5 gal. of gas for a 20.5 MPG ride. Not to bad for an SUV in July with the AC on.
Everything else is up to you to decide if you test drive one.

Six months ago I purchased a used '99 Durango SLT 4x2 with the 5.9L V8. It's in excellent condition and has only 40k miles. I'm very pleased with it, it is comfortable, solid and fun to drive and has great pickup. Only downside is the low fuel efficiency--which can be remedied a bit by using synthetic engine oil and platinum spark plugs. Pulling a trailer is also no problem, remember to use premium gasoline when pulling a trailer (and to disable the overdrive) or operating in low humidity temperatures consistently above 90 degrees F.

Can't beat it! Leagues above my previous truck, the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Fully loaded. Leather seats. Tons of options. 8 passenger seating. Rides like a monster. Fossil Fuel Is Yummie!!!!

After I tired of getting killed trading on new Suburbans, I bit the bullet and bought a Durango. I loved the exterior looks and the inside is okay. There is quite an adjustment down-sizing from a Suburban, but the Durango delivers on spunk and turning radius. I see a lot of people complaining about the gas mileage. I get 14MPG overall - standard for a SUV. Of course, many believe that the smaller size translates to better economy, but the 14 is only slightly better than the Suburban was. The problem is the undersized tank...the Suburban held 43 gallons, so you could drive to Hell and back - no matter the gas mileage. The Durango's puny tank gives the impression that a drive to the supermarket is reason enough for a refill. Overall, the Durango has been a good truck and I have since purchased a second one. The great news comes when you trade and actually have some value left - unlike Suburbans!!

I have one I love the leather interior and the roomy seats not to mention it's got an engine bigger then most ford suv's not to mention the ford saying Found On Road Dead a classic saying or if you write it backwards Daily Repares On Fords so don't buy a ford buy a dodge or a toyota

Roomy interior with 3 rows of seats, and a powerful V8 engine are the goods on this one. But its seats are uncomfortable, and its V8 drinks gas like nothing. High prices make you want the Ford Explorer.

Bought 1999 Durango. Drove home new and the next moring Oil Pressure Sending unit broke. First visit to shop took 30 minutes - great service. 12,000 miles had blown head gasket. Gets worse as the time goes on. Thank goodness I bought an extended warrantee to take us to 100K. Only wish I had a $0 deductable. Piggish on gas though knew that going in. Wife enjoys driving car on-road and it has the features she needs. Drove it on 8" snow and darn near turned into a bobslead. Off-roads wheelbase too long, clearence too low and bottoms out too much. Visibility from driver seat too obstructed. Looks nice from the outside and comes with lots of features though inside one can see the metal screws holding in the dash.

Best domestic SUV for the money.

I have a 2000 Durango. It needed a new fuel pump at 1800 miles, but since then it has been great. It is a gas hog though, but we have the biggest engine and it is a very big and solid vehicle. I feel safe with the amount of steel around me. The inside is VERY ROOMY and comfortable. A lot of leg space. Storage space is very adequate. The features that are standard can't be beat. I can't wait until we get our next Durango. It is powerful!

I've had my Durango since May of 99. Great in snow. Fun to drive. Bad on gas

My brother just bought a Dodge Durango and is very pleased...I test drove it and found it to handle very nicely, plenty of spunk (V8) and it is sharp looking, my brother did admit it enjoys stopping frequently at gas stations.

I've had a Dodge Durango SLT since June 1999. So far so good...and a very fun car to drive. I can't wait to see how it does in the snow.
