 | Rubble (0) 05/25/2007 | Purchased a 1998 4.6HSE w/103K miles for $7000. On the plus side, it's gorgeous, rides smoothly, and has solid mid-range acceleration. Negatives are non-existant accelaration from a standstill, significant cabin lean around turns, and any plastic parts seem inordinately brittle.
I went in to the purchase knowing that I'd need to invest some money in minor repairs, however I was shocked at exactly HOW expensive parts are. $279.00 for a headlight assembly and $360 for a sunroof rails and regulator were wallet-busters. Nagging little problems seem to be a way of life with this vehicle, yet it otherwise seems the most important features (engine, drivetrain) are pretty dependable.
On the whole, I'd agree with the advice in other posts here that the preferred means of ownership is to let someone else take the big depreciation hit on a new purchase, and then buy it second-hand after 4-5 years.

 | dtilkin (0) 12/06/2006 | Have had my 2005 for just under 1 year. Great drive, fantastic comfort, sound etc.... The killer is the gas mileage. As bad as you could imagine. Though I suppose some would say....if you can deal with it you shouldn't have bought that ride.

 | MariusQelDroma (36) 12/18/2004 | A little too fluffy to rate too high, but Land Rovers do have muscle under the pretty paint and chrome.

 | Mad Hatter (40) 12/17/2004 | It's is a luxury suv, but I have seen first hand what a Range Rover can do on the trails. I have great respect of it.

 | Nanette Ryerson (0) 11/29/2004 | I've greatly enjoyed my 1998 Range Rover when it's out of the shop - which isn't often! A litany of small problems keep cropping up and at 80,000 miles the engine had to be rebuilt. Dealer can't seem to get it right and repairs are expensive.

 | JAyG (0) 02/22/2003 | Constant little problems. Purchased 1 year old, 12K miles. Window stuck down on cold rainy day. Gas door remote broke, no way to open with our screwdriver, felt like it had no brakes, went through brake pads very fast. 4.0 engine lacked performance, 13MPG on highway! dealer service very expensive. Excelent in snow and off road. Would not recommend for every day use.

 | BIGBABY (11) 02/03/2003 | Its only good off raod, thats the only good upside here. Downsides are #1 price. $70k Not even close to be worth it. There is nothing else like it, which is what you pay for. Get an affordable one.

 | Elzy10163om (0) 01/13/2003 | I have owned my 1995 Classic LWB County for three years. It has been fantastic! Both on and off road. I have had a Jeep Cherokee, Ford Explorer and they do not compare! Service has been great.

 | Marsarch (0) 03/05/2002 | No Doubt overpriced as a new truck, however find a 4 year old one with low miles and it is the best deal going. For the price of a new explorer you can get a Range Rover. Let someone else take the major resale hit, and this is a great purchase. Oh yea and it is AWESOME!

 | JRP2 (0) 10/26/2001 | I have owned several 4x4's over the years and I can without hesitation say the Range Rover is by far the best there is, although I must say some repairs are expensive. However any vehicle these days can be expensive to repair, and every manufacturer has it's trouble spots whether it be japanese, european or domestic, obiviously a good service department makes life easier, but these are the best vehicles for what they are built for!!

 | bc123bc (0) 08/23/2001 | Somebody should be put up against a wall and shot for allowing this piece of garbage out of the factory. To charge so much and produce such a poorly engineered machine borders on criminal.
The service department is arrogant, less than helpful and, as far as I can tell, pretty darn stupid too.

 | rav4me (0) 06/29/2001 | Too bog and bulky should only be used off road.

 | RedRover (0) 05/02/2001 | The best handling luxury SUV on the market. The automatic level control is great for getting in and out of the vehile. The fit and finish on this car is first rate. We own two of them and will probably always own at least one. This is a great car.

 | phuk4313om (0) 02/18/2000 | Terrible repair record,
overrated just because yuppies buy it, only because it's expensive.
If it solf for what it should, about $12,000, no yuppies scum would buy it; it's only cache is that its mediocre and very expensive.
There's one born every day....
