In my household we have a 2004 LX 470 and a 2006 Land Cruiser. The Land Cruiser, while a beautiful machine, does not have the luxury appointments of the Land Cruiser. It's tough to compare them back to back, as they both have the adjustable suspension. They both have too much body lean in twisty roads, but thet're not meant to be sports cars. The extra horsepower and torque makes the 06 the winner. In fairness, the 04 has 90,000 miles, and the 06 has 27,000 miles on it.If I were buying new, I'd fork out the change for the Lexus, because the time you spend in it day to day it is is plusher and quieter. I have had them both off road in the rocky desert, and on mountain trails, and the Michelin AT 2,s make them unstoppable.Either way you can't go wrong! I'll keep them both until the wheels fall off!

Actually, I agree with markw's statement that the Lexus LX470 is not the same vehicle as the Toyota Land Cruiser, despite the fact that most people (especially automobile salespeople) think it is. They share the same platform, body design and overall dimensions, but the LX470 is a lousy alternative to the lower priced (albeit still expensive) Land Cruiser. First and foremost, the height-adjustable air suspension is a costly option that has no place on a nearly-6000 pound vehicle. With an SUV of this size and height, softening the suspension is a dangerous move that decreases responsiveness and control. Even at its firmest setting, the LX470 does not match the off-road prowess of the Land Cruiser. (This is just one of the reasons Consumer Reports recommends the Land Cruiser but not the LX470.) This is also a clear indication that the LX470 is not intended for serious off-road use but is, instead, a soccer mom's grocery-getter, making it exactly the sort of over-priced "status symbol" others have accused it of being. As for the sound dampening and the world-class stereo, I'll agree with markw on those, but I can't see paying an extra $10,000 for a car stereo and a couple of creature comforts. I'll stick with my Land Cruiser and the assurance that I've got the best 4x4 in the world, AS IS.

We just purchased a 99 Lexus LX 470. We have had it 2 days and I HATE it. We used to have a 04 GMC Yukon Denali and sold it to use the money for rental property purchases. Id take my Yukon Denali anyday over this thing. It rides good and might be a little quieter on the road than the Yukon but it is so blah. The Yukon had such nice touches. Onstar, Xm Radio, Air ride(which the Lx has)A few other things. But its so boring. Im going next week to try to get rid of it. Ill take a GM vehicle anyday over this thing!

Again, too much fluff, not enough nut. Lexus should stick to making cars.

What business does Lexus have by making SUV's? What real use do people get out of it? If it's because it's a status symbol, get something real people will respect you for.

1999 Lx470 bought from dealer certified. From the beginiing bottom rattles and sounds occur that have required multiple trips to dealer to fix. Thank god they pick up the car and delivier it. The heat shields are constantly rattling/rusting and being replaced. Three times I limped it in to dealer and found out throttle chip sensor and accelerator peddle sensor was burnt' each time. Dealer suprised as Lexus never have these problems. Mine did. It is now making a noise when backing up that service techician not right, must fix before major problem occurs. Now I want to trade it in and the same dealership will only give minimal price for it. Drives nice, but wow, for the money should have minimal problems..........mine is a lemon.............beware, Lexus present an image of superiority, but quality of mine is lacking..........

A clear attempt from Toyota to make some money. The LX470 is excatly the same thing as the Land Cruiser, it just has a different face to "disguise" this. Like every Toyota, its very well built, but its also way way overpriced. Go for the Land Cruiser.

Just to set the record straight, Big Baby, it is NOT the same truck as the LandCruiser. The LX470 has a height-adjustable air suspension with 4 different degrees of firmness from Sport to Comfort which is not present on the Toyota. The ride and handling is completely different. Take them out back to back--you'll see what I mean. Additionally, the amount of sound insulation is greater in the Lexus and the interiors are differently appointed. The Lexus has considerably more wood and leather, as well as a world-class stereo from Mark Levinson. It's okay to not like this truck, but don't inaccurately slander it or hate it because you can't afford it. Love it, best vehicle I've ever owned. Smooth, quiet and powerfull. Just because I don't take it offroad doesn't mean that I can't enjoy the better visability, more interior space and utility of an SUV. If you're not going to take it offroad, buy whatever you want! OH RIGHT! I guess if you have plenty of coin and want to make sure your wife is happy while you take her on that cross country trip to the Outback Steakhouse on Friday night, then this is the car for you, Mr. Poseur. Apparently, this thing comes equipped with a woman on a cell phone...

rides great, quiet, 2 years no problems

This is a class A vehicle. A substantial car with lots of extras. Most importantly, it is an extremely smooth ride for an SUV, a beautiful look and full of practical, helpful features. The sereo system is awesome, the memory feature on the power seats and window is a must for more than one driver, and the power source, first aid kit and built in 'cooler' in the back are the added touches that an owner will come to appreciate.

Hideous car - people just buy it because it says Lexus on it.

I have to choose a rating based on looks, but if I could afford it, I would buy one of these in a second! Lexus has a great rep for a reason. And Anonymous ppl should 1. learn how to spell "luxury" and 2. stop putting down vehicles out of jealousy.

Luguary companies should not be selling SUV's. If it never goes off road, buy a car!
