I've been leasing this car for the last 5 years - feels like a lifetime. All of you out there who wants to know why did I signed up a lease deal that so long is a really good question, the answer to which I don't quite know myself. The most logical explanation I give you is that I was young and foolish. Saying that, I think Mitsbishi is a good car over all. Within five years I had to renew almost everything in it. The weirdest thing about it was that everytime I had an oil change or transmission oil change, one of the lights (breaks, oil. etc), would light up and wouldn't go away. It also, accelareates forever. Other than that, it's ok.

I love my 2000 Montero Sport. I get 20mpg in town with the AC on. I agree with fixer2000, not alot of punch. But if I really stomp on it, it goes. I guess I don't have much need for stompin'. What I like about it the most is the visbility. The mirrors are huge and there are practically no blind spots. Also, the stock radio/cd player is pretty decent. And the rear cargo area is way bigger than the Xterra, which was my other choice for SUV's.

Obviously BIGBABY is a Ford lover. WAAAAA! He has shot down a bunch of other makes and always recommends the Explorer or Highlander. Try actually buying a vehicle before critiquing it. Trust me, I had a Fix Or Repair Daily (FORD) I had a Jeep Cherokee and thought it was great until I bought my Montero Sport. The only minus I can give is the lack of punch when you stomp the gas pedal. BIG ***** DEAL. I don't off road and I drive safely. The lack of punch is a very small price to pay when you get a vehicle that is better in every other way. A lot of your comments will be based on the dealer. You can take it to ANY Mitsubishi dealer for service. Some are good, some are bad.

This is almost as bad and unreliable as its terrible and unsafe brother. Why get this when you can get an Explorer or Highlander?!

I have had a 2000 Montero for almost three years now and the only problem I have had with was an oil seal in the the left rear hub that went bad. It doesn't get as good of gas mileage as I thought it would on the whole, although I did get 25mpg on one tank driving across Utah.

I recently bought a 2002 Montero Sport. For the price a good value. Do wish it was available in standard, I miss my stick shift.

Oxymoron: a Japanese car too big to be driven on Japanese roads. Unnecessary in the USA, too.
