I wonder if Billy Rich Boy has any regrets about forcing a White,or Jewish, girl to have sex with a Black guy, to "prove" she wasn't racist? TRUE STORY.

Well if he has no regrets about blowing things up....

I have a seven-year-long association with this notorious terrorist, which should of course discredit absolutely everything I have ever said. While I'd forgotten about it until now, my wife recently reminded me of the massive albatross around my neck, and I have now been persuaded by John McCain that I should not be allowed to hold public employment and should, in fact, be invited to leave the country at my earliest convenience to move to Iran or wherever I can hang out with like-minded people. It turns out that when we were living in Oakland, California, in 2001, my wife suggested one night that we follow our usual routine and head up to the late lamented Cody's Books on Telegraph Avenue for an author event. I didn't know much about it, but suddenly there I was, sitting in the old Cody's upstairs, willingly hanging on the words of a former member of the Weather Underground!!! It is true that he devoted just as much time to his mistakes as to the injustices of the time, but, well, that is no excuse for me. It is true that Ayers connected the terrorism of the Weather Underground to the recent trauma of 9/11 in ways that were both smart and sympathetic, but I am still guilty of a heinous silence in not stopping the terrorist from uttering such sentiments. Yes, it is true that I did not buy the book, and had completely forgotten about this until my wife reminded me of it a couple weeks ago, but I am still shared a room with Ayers for over an hour (!), and am therefore unworthy of standing on American soil when patriots like John McCain are here to incessantly remind me of their sacrifices. Alas! my patriotic brethren! how this seven-year-long association must alter your perceptions of me! how unpatriotic am I!

If I hear how he was "only eight years old" when Ayers was this or that, one more time, I'm going to go to.. to.. argh.  He certainly wasn't eight years old on September 11, 2008 when Ayers made the comments that he had made.

Should we expect Obama to sit down with Osama in a few years and say, "Oh well, I wasn't aware" or make comments about how some Republican did it at some point or other- like a child in a school yard saying, "But he started it!" And this is the sort of leader that some want to lead their country?

Can someone tell me what the difference between Osama and Ayers is?

Hohw strange that Obama should not be aware of Wright's "God Damn America" views and his hatred of America, or of Ayers similar views?

What sort of institution hires a terrorist (can someone tell me where the word 'former' comes into play here? He hasn't repented) to teach?  Can anyone answer me how a couple of nuns in Baltimore can be put on a terror list of sorts, and this guy who actually committed crimes against his country....

Is teaching?

This is a guy who's girlfriend was blown to bits in the basement of a house while building a bomb that was supposed to go off at Fort Dix.  This is a guy whose friends were bank robbers.  Whose wife was a terrorist herself and who thought it was a good thing that Manson and his supporters had killed the "pigs". In 1970, she declared war on the United States of America.

These people are treasonous, at the very least and weren't flying under the radar.

Hell, thank goodness that Ahmadinijad has some common sense and is not wanting to meet with Obama without preconditions.. I'd hate to see the tax payer dollar on that shindig, what with having to fly over Rezko, Ayers, Wright, members of Acorn, and lord only knows who else is lurking in Obama's closets (perhaps his former room mates will be the ones to offer up refreshments.. a line of coke for the first fifty at the door?)

Pfft. President Obama.. wanted Imus fired, but has no issue with Ayers or Wright.

If Billy Ayres hasn't been a significant factor in Obama's formative Chicago Politics years then why has the Obama campaign worked so hard to obfuscate the issue?

They say that Obama's kids went to school with Ayre's kids.
Obama and Ayres worked together and they were neighbors - twice.

Their political opinionions about education are in lock step.

Their wives have close ties.

Come on, these two are as thick as thieves.

If the media wasn't in the tank for Obama they'd be all over the Ayres connection like rice on Chinese food.

As usual, the GOP has no issues to run on in 2008, so, they trot out the tried and true means to mystify the drooling idiots: character assasination and aspersions on the opposing candidate.  Real Karl Rovian bullsh*t.  It appears that Obama's ties to this clown are about as tenuous and specious as possible.  They served on the boards of two community-based organizations, and in this regard, met probably no more than 15-20 times face-to-face.  They once lived in the same neighborhood.  Ayers made a small contribution to one of Obama's early campaigns about ten years ago and once hosted a coffee for him at his house when he was just starting out in politics a dozen years ago.  They have not had any official contact since around 2001-2002, and the last time they saw each other it was a matter of a chance meeting on the street two years ago.  Ayers never served as an advisor or consultant for any of Obama's campaigns, and outside of those two aforementioned early gestures of support, has never been in his camp whatsoever.  Obama said he did not know of Ayers' background when he first met him, and has denounced the ex-Weatherman's unlawful and dangerous activities that were committed when the candidate was 8 years old.  So, the connection between these two men is as casual and scalene as can be, yet, that doesn't keep McTurd and Pig Loudmouth from suggesting that they're lifelong friends, "palling around" together.  What lies and nonsense, as usual, from the Republican side.  Folks, let's not forget that McTurd was one of the Keating Five, and received over $100,000 in cash plus other freebie bribes from the criminal savings and loan operator.  That's a much more serious situation, one for which the geriatric Senator from Arizona should have done serious time.  But, instead, he got off with a mere slap on the wrist.

Numbah16, just goes to show you how the Democrats think. "Whats that? You disagree with me? Oh, when I get into power, I'LL SHOW YOU!" Strange how many of the violent extremists in the world are liberal, isn't it? The people who bomb/attack science labs conducting testing on animals; Kaczynski, the Unabomber; William Ayers...

Update:  Something for you smear-meisters to consider:  As you sow so shall you reap.  What goes around comes around.  Your resort to character assassination and smears in lieu of a discussion of relevant issues will be remembered when the Dems are in power and the GOP isn't.  Your fanning of the flames of bitter partisanship through Machiavellian tactics will likely come back to haunt you.

Original comment:  Let's see, since they're neighbors and worked on a committee together, I guess you're implying that Obama condones and/or shares Ayers' radical beliefs?  That's a bit of a stretch, isn't it?  None of the anti-Obama reviewers here have mentioned the fact that Obama has condemned in the strongest terms what Ayers did.  Why is that?  Because your partisanship prevents you from being fair?  Because Sarah Palin is doing the McCain campaign's desperate bidding to resort to smear tactics of guilt by (slight) association, since the campaign recognizes it can't beat Obama on the issues, and you feel compelled to jump on that GOP bandwagon?  Because that's the kind of people you really are, who, like McCain and Palin, will say and do anything, no matter how reprehensible, to try to win your perceived holy war against the libs?  Because, like your hero, Karl Rove, you believe that the end justifies any means, regardless of notions of honesty, truth, and morality? You're blinded by hatred.  Do you wonder why we fight so hard to keep you out of office?  Your kind has made this country what it is today--disrespected and distrusted by the rest of the world, hated by many, on the brink of financial disaster, bitterly partisan, filled with greed, selfishness, and hypocrisy.

So, Obama is somehow complicit in Weather Underground activities that took place when he was a child because he has since raised funds for poor kids' schools in Chicago and so has Ayers.  Is that about it?

When asked about his association with Ayres, Obama's response was that he 'really didn't know him...that Ayres was just a guy who lives in the neigborhood'. The truth is that Obama had been working for Ayres for around 8 years when he made this statement.

Bill Ayres and his wife, Bernadine Dohrn, founders of the 60s Weatherman group, responsible for the bombing of the Capitol, the Pentagon, and numerous law enforcement agencies and multiple murders, including a failed attempt to blow up a non-commissioned officer's dance at Fort Dix, New Jersey, when the bomb exploded, prematurely, killing three associates. Ayres trial was dismissed on a technicality, while associates, Susan Rosenberg and Linda Evans, who were apprehended transporting 740 pounds of explosives and sentenced to long prison terms, where pardoned by President Clinton in January 2001. Ayres response to his acquittal?

"Guilty as hell! Free as a bird! "

"I dont regret setting bombs," Ayers was quoted in the opening line of the Times profile; "I feel we didnt do enough", while getting photographed standing on a crumpled American flag.

Knowing this, Obama accepted an invitation to meet the Hyde Park elite at a dinner party in the home of Ayres/Dohrn, where his run began.

Does it make sense to anyone that a person with political aspirations would want to even be seen in the same room with a slimy piece of American-hating shit like Ayres? Obama could have been the model for Putney Swopes...a person who would be willing to dive into feces if there was money in there.

But, of course, none of this could possibly be true if it ain't on the alphabet news stations 12 times a day, right?

As a single acquaintance, it is thin.  When taken in the context of the most liberal guy in the Senate, Rev. Wright is a close buddy (bff), as are Raines, Johnson, and many others, this is about judgment.  I don't have any friends with a past like this guy.  He hates America.  His wife REALLY hates America.

There is no equivalent republican or conservative, anywhere.  This guy didn't mature out of his dingbat beliefs, like most people do.  He still harbors them.  And is still working on them.  And, at no point has Obama distanced himself from those beliefs, any more than he has any of his other bff's.  It's about judgment.  And the ideology he has been marinating in for twenty years.  He doesn't believe ANY of it?  What won't you believe?  What won't you defend to get your inexperienced lameass into office?

Sorry, the press has not done its job on this guy and many others.  If there was an equivalent guy on the right (Rev. Hagee isn't even close) and the press could draw an association or relationship between him and McCain, you'd hear nothing else.  Absolutely in the tank for Obama.  What else do they know about that they are suppressing?

This is pretty thin.

Yes, they served on a committee together, yes they are neighbors, and yes Ayers says he supports Obama. That's a long way from a close connection. This is so thin, that that well known bastion of Leftist thought, The National Review, (kindly note attendant sarcasm) dismissed it as important.

Considering what it must take to be considered a "Distinguished Professor" in today's University climate, particularly a place like the University of Illinois at Chicago, I'm hardly impressed by that.

As often seems to happen, pointing out simple facts draws fire to the messenger. Whatever he does today, the fact of the matter is Ayers was a 1960s radical and a leader with the inappropriately named Students for a Democratic Society, as well as co-founder of Weather Underground. He upgraded from blowing up statues to bombings of New York City police headquarters, the Capitol building, and the Pentagon. (So called terrorist?) At one point, his roommate and girlfriend were killed when a nail bomb they were assembling went off accidently. What a shame. Pointing all this out is the problem?

As for his association with Obama, they sat on a board together, lived in the same neighborhood, and Ayers contributed to Obama's senate re-election campaign. That by itself isn't much, but they did run in the same circles and it was no secret who Ayers was and what he had done in the past. And for anyone wanting to paint Ayers as a changed man because of his "Distinguished Professor" standing, he told the New York Times that he didn't regret anything he had done and that he felt they "didn't do enough". That was in September of 2001, mind you. AND, Frank, members of the Weather Underground were given pardons by Bill Clinton, allowing them to walk around using their names and write books.

I don't know exactly how close Obama was to the man, but it seems to me someone with Obama's aspirations should have put himself miles away from someone like Ayers. I won't even mention the fact that if a Republican walks through the same room as someone with a foggy past there are people frothing at the mouth to make a connection to them, no matter how weak. Oops. Guess I mentioned it anyway.

This so called terrorist is a Distinguished Professor of Education at a major University and worked with Obama on a committee to fight poverty.  That's bad, real bad.  Is that what a Washington Outsider brings to the table, specious slurs and twisted obfuscations of guilt by association?  Truly maverick behaviour indeed.

You can see the thought process here, right?  McCain is getting trounced on the economy.  Nobody believes McCain on the economy because just a few weeks ago he said the fundamentals were strong (and no Sarah Palin, the "fundamentals" doesn't mean "the American people.")

So what about that other GOP stronghold, foreign policy?  Well, that's not going so well either.  McCain's determination to keep the Iraq war going doesn't sound so good with the country going broke, Iraq sitting on seventy billion in cash, and Al Qaeda leadership chilling in Afghanistan / Pakistan.

So what's left?  Smears and culture wars.  That's it.  Rally the troops behind the human culture war bumper sticker Sarah Palin, and sic the mud machine on Obama.

Who cares that the country is in economic crisis - it's time to throw mud, right?  Create the talking points, and the legions of EOs in the world will proudly run with them.

So back to William Ayers.  He did bad things when Obama was eight.  Worse than McCain friend and supporter G Gordon Liddy?  It's debatable.  But bad things nonetheless.  And  compared to the Keating Five, Obama's judgment in attending a fundraiser in the mid nineties is pretty small beans.

So here's my take on this whole thing.  McCain has run a shitty and scummy campaign - it's been heartbreaking in a lot of ways.  But here's the upside.  If the politics of scum is defeated in this election, perhaps the next one won't be so bad.  Perhaps the Steve Schmidt's of the world will be left on the sidelines, and the next campaign that is faced with losing numbers will attempt to try harder on the issues rather than submerge the country in mud and slime and hate.

Here's to hoping.
