In this case, the Acorn isn't falling far from Obama, is it? How many voters pressured to register, to vote? How many people taken advantage of? How many Mickey Mouse's? How much money funnelled to them over the years? These people should be ashamed, instead they're affronted.  The Audacity of it all.

I just hope the truth would come out before is too late. One of the most precious rights we have is in danger here. Obama's credibility is getting worse and worse. will McCain call him on to the issue in the next debate?

Is there more to this than meets the eye? Is ACORN involved in a conspiracy to cause the financial crisis we are in today? Some evidence are starting to come out.

As to the allegations of fraudulent voter registrations, the jury is still out for me...

Speaking now as the former political aide and sometime hatchet man I once was, four possible scenarios to explain this story occur to me:

1.) That A.C.O.R.N. engaged in an organized, deliberate conspiracy to submit large numbers of fraudulent voter registrations;

2.) That some A.C.O.R.N. voter registration workers (unbeknownst to A.C.O.R.N.) submitted false voter registrations in an effort to increase their earnings;

3.) That some A.C.O.R.N. voter registration workers (unbeknownst to A.C.O.R.N.) submitted false voter registrations in an effort to affect the election;

4.) That A.C.O.R.N. is the victim of a Cointelpro operation by persons unknown with a view to discrediting them.

Let me examine these items ad seriatim.

1.) The big problem with this is that it would require a fair bit of coordination, planning and the complicit involvement of large numbers of people. As history has shown, the more people involved in a conspiracy, the more likely someone is to talk. I think if this was the case, someone would have sold their story to the press by now. The other problem with this is that voter registrations are not themselves votes. The next step in the process, getting false voters to cast a ballot, requires far greater organization and far greater risks that submitting registrations.

2.) Voter registration workers are paid a bonus based on the number of registrations they submit. It is very common for such workers to submit fraudulent names in an attempt to boost their earnings. This fact is well know to election officials, hence the vetting process such registrations undergo. Over the years, there have been many such cases, of varying scale from small to very large. Further, these previous incidents have occurred with individuals hired by organizations spanning the entire political spectrum, from hard right, to hard left.

3.) It is entirely possible that some voter registration workers, acting on their own, submitted false registrations with a view to "helping" a candidate. While it is possible, it is unlikely that this could be the explanation of the scale of the current issue.

4.) Political cointelpro is a way of life. It is not unique to any one party, or an one candidate. I've done some of it, and suborned others to do it during my political career. In this case, it would be possible to plant false voter registrations with a view to discrediting A.C.O.R.N.

As far as I'm concerned, based on my experience the most likely scenarios are items 2 and 4, with 2 being far more likely. 1 and 3 are possible, but far less likely for the reasons given above.

I'm interested in reading more of this story, but on the evidence so far, and the logical assumptions, I don't see a clear answer.

What's the deal with all of the ACORN bashing? ACORN is an organization that has a long history of helping the poor. (Repubs hate it.) In NOLA, ACORN helps people with free tax filing for low- and moderate-income communities.  They have a Lead Poisoning Prevention program helping low-income families protect their children from lead poison and a Voting Rights program that helps to fight to protect the voting rights of Louisiana residents in future elections. You can see why repubs are seeking to demonize ACORN as it helps the very people who the GOP is least concerned with and who are most likely to be Democratic voters. Pass it on.

Get the facts on the attempted voter suppression that led to the resignation of Rove, Gonzales, and other top Justice officials.

I think some people on the far left would claim to be the pope if they thought they could give Obama an advantage.

While we're getting an explanation about this, I'd also like to know whyDemocrats were trying to slide a few tax payers dollars toward this group of misfits when they were supposedly trying to save the economy.

Would actual backers of Obama purposely register people claiming to be various Dallas Cowboys or other OBVIOUS fakes?

Who would benefit from such a move?

FRAME UP?

This should be a major deal to the voting citizens. The mainstream media however, have swept this under the rug. Go figure.

Authorities in Nevada seized computer data and documents from  ACORN. Authorities in Ohio and seven other states are also conducting an investigation into ACORN's activities. There will be more to come out of this for sure.

Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now was founded, believe it or not, in Little Rock, Arkansas.  We can thank A.C.O.R.N., in more than a little part for the current mortgage mess.  Strong lobbying by ACORN and others during the Clinton Administration led to pressure on banks and other lenders to make more loans to various ethnic and racial groups, if you know what I mean.  Those groups, historically, at least, had larger percentages of their population not always proficient in paying such debts.
