JC Penney 5

(PART ONE RATING) * 1 Star for JCP OPTICAL
I had an extremely bad experience with very rude and sarcastic JC Penney Optical employees at a Southeast PA store. I had a bad impression on my first visit but decided to stick it out (I overheard the one saying to another family with kids "Are these 'yours, mine, and ours' kids, or what?" Who asks that??? Also I said I wanted to get a regular pair of glasses and tint them and she said "You can always tell when people don't buy 'real' sunglasses and just tint others" Isn't that MY decision?? And she told she didn't like my current glasses that are silver and that brown looked better on me.) I ended up picking out glasses and when received (on Wednesday) I noticed that I couldn't see correctly out of the R lens. I told them that the Rx was probably wrong and they said that I just had to get used to them. I said I could see fine out of my contacts that I just had received from my Dr. The girl said that contact lens RXs are made weaker (I've never heard this before), so I just had to get used to my glasses. So I went to my Dr's the very next day and got them to fix the Rx (they mistakenly printed out the wrong Rx for me). It was a Dr's mistake, not JCPenney, but they still managed to make me seem like I didn't know what I was talking about. So, on Friday (same week) when I went back they treated me terribly. I said I wanted to return the sunglasses because they were not good quality (there was a space between the arm and the front of the glasses where my hair was getting stuck, I was told "That's just how they're made"). She stuck out the receipt and pointed to where it said 'no returns on custom eyeware', telling me that I can't return them. I asked what the 'Love em or Leave em' policy was and got no answer. I had already called the Optical Help Desk on Thurs and asked for this policy and they said yes I could return them. When I told the girl, she called her mgr, and talked sarcastically about me to her mgr, who both basically made it sound like I was a liar, asking me when I called the Optical Help Desk because they never got a call from them, asking why I called the help desk and not the store first (honestly, because I didn't trust the two at the store Optical Center), asking when I went to my eye doctor's to get a new Rx (when I told them 'yesterday' they questioned, 'what time??'). Then the mgr on the phone talked to me and said I can't return the sunglasses because she got me a really good deal on my regular pair of glasses and she didn't want to draw any attention to herself. There was much more sarcasm I incurred by the employee at the store about other concerns and questions I had. She also told me there is no way to tell between plastic lenses and polycarbonate lenses (after my Dr had already checked my new and current pair right in front of me). So, she finally said "Don't come back tomorrow because we will be really busy and can't help you, you can come Monday" and then sarcastically said "BYE" once we thanked her for her help. I actually considered for a minute coming back on Monday, but decided to talk to the store mgr because there is NO way I ever wanted to interact with them again.

(PART TWO RATING) ***** 5 stars for The rest of the JCP Store
I spoke with the store manager who was AMAZING. I cannot say enough good about him and the other female store mgr that was on that night. They were very understanding and shocked by the way I was treated by these employees. They assured me not to worry and took us (my mom and I) to his office and promised to get this straightened out. I said that I understood they might not be returnable but that the way I was treated was truly unacceptable and derogatory and I did not want to have to talk with them again, let alone have them working with my eyes. He was very reassuring and got the woman manager to take my credit card down to Optical and have them do the full return. He was very knowledgeable of JCP's Cx service policy and did everything he could to fix the situation. He assured me he would let the District Mgr know about the situation as well and he didn't want to lose us as JCP Customers even though he understood we were lost as Optical customers. Because of our positive experience with him and other employees, he did not lose us as customers. Later that night, we did purchase jewelry at the counter and we were greeted by several other employees while walking through the store. Every other person I have come in contact with has helped me and treated me extremely kindly at this location. Just avoid the optical center....

I work at JCP.. and have worked there for 3 years now.. I worked there all through high school and have now started college.. We get the worst customers ever, They are complete and total jackasses who have never worked retail before, I have worked in every section in the store and so I have a pretty good idea about most things. A little word of advice, if you order something out of the catalog DO NOT CALL THE STORE we can not do anything.. All we do is place the order and recieve them. JCP out sources all of there departments so we have absolutely nothing to do with it (other then place the order and receive)... Now for my bitch and moan section, if it seams like we are hounding you for a credit application.. ITS BECAUSE THE MANAGERS ARE ALWAYS ON OUR ASSES, now me personally I could not give a crap, I believe that people should not have credit cards(except for emergencies) and Ive been there to long they wont fire me over that. But for the new associates give them a flippin break.. I bet you sucked ass at your first job or when you started a new job, these associates work just like you do.. TO MAKE MONEY. Also WE DONT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT YOUR LIFE.. I have customers come in all the time bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch.. Another thing WE ARE NOT FLIPPIN KOHLS... I have customers all the time, well Kohls has this or Kohls has that.. WELL THEN FUCKING GO TO KOHLS

Although the 3 piece sectional couch I ordered was beautiful, I have never had a worse customer service and delivery experience. The delivery guys broke my door when they took it down so that the couch could be brought through, and then I discovered that the corners of the loveseat had been torn. I'm not sure how they were torn - whether when they were bring the couch through or at the factory - but the woman in customer service told me it was MY fault and they couldn't do anything about it. Then she back-tracked and told me to refuse the loveseat and they would send me a new one. The delivery guys refused to take it because they said JCPenney would take the torn one when the new one was delivered. Turns out that they didn't have this couch in their inventory anymore - so my options were to refuse the whole couch, in which case I would lose over $600 in deposits and delivery fees - or to accept a $120 refund on the torn couch. That's not much of a choice!

Regardless of what JCPenney sells, they are not worth buying from unless you like to be screwed!

I love love love how they offer 15% survey coupon! It saves me a bunch! The associates are always very nice and helpful. They let me combine coupons so I can save so much! I always shop at JCPenney. The prices are incredible, too. I bought a dress for $8.50! And it's a really nice-looking formal dress, not like a cheap summer dress or anything

While searching Penney's web site for mattresses, I went to a web page claiming free shipping. I ordered a mattress, and no shipping charge was added to the bill.
A week later I was checking on the order and saw that a shipping charge had been added. The mattress is drop shipped, so there should be no extra charge to the buyer.
I called customer service and was told that I should have clicked to another page that said items being trucked would have shipping charges. I told the person that I would not pay shipping. When she insisted that I was at fault, I canceled the order. They lost a $400 order over about a $35 phony charge.
This deceptive practice is unfair and is worse than hiding contract conditions in the fine print, because a viewer has to click around on a web site looking for tricks.

I ordered a pair of black sneakers online. Got a pair of blue sneakers. Decided to accept the blue ones, but I still wanted a pair of black. Ordered the black ones again. Got another pair of blue ones.

Two single-item orders. Both incorrect. I'll never order from them again.

Not so very happy that Pennys is advertising a "Liter Sale" in the salon. But the conditioner of the Matrix Biolage that I use was NOT the one liter size!! Selling a smaller size as 1 liter, shame on them! False Advertising!! :(

I ordered a mattress and a box spring from JCPenney's two weeks ago Monday, their first delivery date was Tuesday of the following week. They were supposed to call me the day before on Monday with the time frame. Of course, no one called. I called the cust. service three times that Monday evening. The first lady didn't even bother to look into my order -- she just reassured me that I should give some more time until 8 p.m. and that I should get call. The last time I called rep. looked at the order and informed me that there will be no delivery next day due some complications with the vendor and etc.

Well, I thought we waited long enough and on Tuesday I called them and cancelled my order and went to Mattress Discounters. Not only I ordered a mattress and a box spring, but they threw in a free frame and a headboard that was on clearance price, and also they gave a free delivery. On top of that everything was delivered the next day. All just a hundred dollars more than I paid at Penney's!

To add salt to the injury, I called Penney's this morning asking about the refund that is not showing on my statement. Remember, I cancelled the order a week ago. Well, the cust. rep informed me that my order wasn't cancelled at all.

This was my first and last time I shopped there.

Recently I worked at JC Penney for a short time at their new store in Allen, TX. I had to resign because I was having transportaion problems getting to work. However, what I found disturbing was that I could see in my short time there how some of the management would be. The person who's job it was to monitor our schedules never answered his phone and did not return calls when we, especially as new employees, had questions. Then I asked another manager if there was an alternate number we could use if this person did not get back with us. This lady had a funky attitude and informed me of the guy who was supposed to manage our schedules. I already knew that!!! I needed her help to get me someone else who could answer me because I found out later that this guy was playing a little game with my scheduling. What really bothered me was that the next day she taught the new employee training class and acted like she had the ultimate love for mankind, new employees and of course customers. She was real phony! And since she was so phony, couldn't she have 'acted' like she wanted to help me! But this is the kind of behind the scenes crap that goes on in most of these places. It made me feel uncomfortable and a lot of those managers are not as approachable as they think they are. They say come to them with anything, any questions, problems, whatever. I wasn't the only employee who noticed this lady's phoniness! I can see this store having a lot of turnover, mostly due to those who think they are way more important than they really are and soooo phony! I also thought after seening thier merchandise up close, that it was just so- so quality and not real stylish. It may seem like I am just griping over a personal issue, but some of this reflects on how an employee feels after dealing with management and having to go out on the floor to customers. But Mike in the men's dept. was a good guy!

i use to work at jc penney for 2 years...at first i worked as a credit ap girl, asking people to open up credit cards, later i was moved to cashier and was finally doing something useful. I hated going in to work because it was always heavy workloads for the employees and then they started cutting people off and having one person deal with all those go backs...i hated it there but at the same time i enjoyed working there because i was use to the work and i felt comfortable with the employees there....One day they call me in 4 hrs early and ask me if i can come in, i agree happily because i've been wanting more hours...so i come to work only to be fired...i was fired for a good reason but it just pissed me off because i thought of myself as the model employee, always covering shifts, always helping do recovery as well as go backs, pretty much always being reliable and for what...to be screwd over like that, i was just really mad because i felt that that stupid job took away so much from me and because of a stupid mistake i made they could put the boot on me like that, ever since then i feel like a criminal going into the store....i dont even want to shop there i just hope to pay off my bills and then i'll be done with everything

I went to the optical center at JC Penny at Yorktown center in IL to get a new pair of glasses. I got the glasses after 3 weeks and found the they didn't do the anti-glare coating because of misunderstanding. So I told them that I want to get the coating done on it. They promised me to send the glassed back to me with in 9 days, which didn't happen. I waited for another 4 weeks and made at least 5 calls. After waiting for more than 50 days in total, I finally got the glasses. But there are some defects on it and I cannot see things (even close thing) clearly with the left side lense. If you want to wait for more than 2 months to get your glasses and you want some poor quality glasses, this is the place you want to go!!

THE OPTICAL CENTERS AT JC PENNEY ARE TERRIBLE!

I went to JCPenneys today to go and look for a bridesmaid dress with my soon to be sister in law and my sister. We were waiting in the lingerie department to get my soon to be measured for a bra. they asked us to wait. So we waited. after about 30 mins the lady there that was checking people out finally told us that we needed to get a dressing room. The dress rooms had no one in them for about 10 mins and right as they get filled up we are told that in order to get measured we have to get a fitting room. So guess what we got to do. Wait because the rude lady that we working in that department did not tell us that we needed one in the first place. Then because we had to wait so long I said something. I asked why we had to wait so long and why didn't they tell us that we needed to get a fitting room because we would of gotten one when ever there was one open the first time. But no the lady wanted to keep on ringing other people up that had not been there but like 2 seconds. And of coarse when you make more sales they get more credit for it. Well then a dressing room opened up so we got it. The sales lady starts saying something I don't think that you want me to measure her out here in the open or anything like that do you? Well since the manager was there I said 'instead of arguing with me why don't you go ahead and to the measuring.' The manager had the nerve to tell me that what I said was not very nice. EXCUSE ME BUT I THOUGHT THAT THE CUSTOMER WAS ALWAYS RIGHT. On top of that I was right. Instead of waiting more of my time since we had already been waiting about 40 mins then she could have already had it done because my soon to be was waiting in one of the fitting rooms for the sales lady to come measure her. Then when she was done measuring her she just walks out opens the door wide as hell while my soon to be was in nothing but her bra. Ok and I'm the rude one? I finally had to walk away. JCPenney is lucky that we went through the whole mall and we did not find any other dress that we liked for my soon to be. So then from what my sisters told me they said that the manager would give us an extra 10% off the bra for our trouble. Well then when we were checking out they my sister said it about the 10% extra off for the hassle and the sales lady said well she is not rude and did not put us through a hassle. I could not believe that she even said anything. I could not take it anymore. The fact that we where treated that way and the fact that this was going on and on. The lady called her manager because I finally started to get louder and started to start being mean. She would not ring anything up because I was saying something so I finally just gave my card to my sister and told her to pay and had to walk out. JCPenney's in Ocala Florida at the Paddock mail is really rud

JCPENNEY IN OCALA FLORIDA AT THE PADDOCK MALL HAS VERY RUDE ASSOCIATES AND VERY RUDE MANAGERS!!!!!!!!!!!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS STORE FOR ANYTHING!!!!

JC Penney sells defective gold. My mother was a long time customer of JC Penney. Before she passed away she bought items of jewelry for people to remember her by. One of those items was a white gold tanzanite and diamond necklace for my daughter. Some of the stones began to come out after she passed away so we took it in for repair at JC Penney. They sent it out for repair and came back with the gold was defective and it would take several hundred dollars to restore. Of course we didn't have the receipt so their (Penney management) response was they had no way to varify that it came from their store. I know it came from their store and they also know their merchandise. I scrambled to find her account number, and after I found it I was told they only keep records for three years so they couldn't track the purchase. Don't buy JC Penney jewelry!

I don't enjoy shopping there, but JC Penney's is a good place to go for relatively inexpensive dress clothes like shirts and ties, and I also tend to buy athletic shoes there, because they have the same brands as places like Foot Locker, but at much lower prices. They also tend to carry my size in khakis and dress slacks, while places like Wal-Mart or Target consider my size to be big and tall, and therefore don't carry them in the store, although I find that paying $40 for a pair of pants is a bit steep when if I was just a little smaller I could buy basically the same thing from Wal-Mart for under $20.

This store is terrible. We get special offers that, when you factor in all the exclusions are worthless. I ordered a bed set. First, the discount they flashed all over the screen had "fine print" that excluded my order. Second, they accepted the order and then called back later to say that even though the web sit indicated you could ship to a store (and have no shipping cost) and even though I selected that option and even though the order was placed, they would not honor the order and wanted an additional $275. I talked to a "supervisor" and a "manager" that may not have been human since they could only pariot the same nonsense lines over and over. So, we are 30+ year customers of a store and will nto shop there again.

Of all the Internet shopping I have done, this is the worst.

I completely understand a customer's point of view..But, it can be hard working for and being another number at a store like this.

I was hired on by JC Penney for seasonal help and told that I would most likely be kept on as a regular (by the manager of the apartment). So, I awaited patiently to hear back from HR and find out whether or not I would be kept on after Christmas only to hear nothing..

In these types of stores, one it generally at the mercy of the management for decisions and can only inquire as to what their fate is quietly..and usually no clear answer of yes or no is given.

I found out I was being layed off, when I went to check my schedule and found that I was not scheduled to work any hours after Christmas. When I asked the hiring manager whether or not I was being kept on after Christmas, I got a light hearted reply that he didn't know. He would inquire with the store manager to see..They hadn't gotten around to giving out pink slips to those they were planning on laying off yet... Mind you, this is one week before I would have no hours or job.

It wasn't the fact that I was being layed off that was most unsettling. I knew it could happen, but I was given no notice at all. Management kept us in limbo and when I did ask a direct question, still not yes or no. I still have not been given formal notice that I am being layed off.

..So, after the discovery that I would have no job. And with no formal answer from management, I was quite aggravated. How could I work the busy season and act like I care? I felt used and unappreciated. Expendable. Meanwhile, customers hurried about with their christmas shopping. But, I was left to wonder how I would pay my bills after this next paycheck and if I could even afford to buy christmas presents. Sadly, the answer was no.

If you want a good job, do not go to penny's or target or any other low-paying retail store. They are not concerned about people. They are concerned about making sales goals, meeting their credit application goal, and checking customers out as fast as they can. Associates work full-time and are expected to provide outstanding customer service, yet they earn a paycheck that will barely allow them to pay their bills or make any reasonable living.

And if this isn't bad enough, did I mention that the average work week for JC Penney employees is usually about 32-35 hours and this does not include the 30 minute unpaid lunches that must be also be taken on account of labor laws. And that's all on a wage of about 8.50 an hour.

If I sound like a disgruntled employee, it's because I am. These are hard truths.

And while some of you might ask, why doesn't this person get loans and go to college? Well, I have. I have been looking for a job that meets my qualifications for 3 months now and I will have to keep looking. I have never had to apply for unemployment in my life until now.

Never again! The sales person said she couldn't give me an estimate time when my sofas could be delivered. I called the following Monday and one of their reps said starts the day sold. I called again and another rep said it was the day invoiced. They transfered me to a different department and that rep said it was the day the trucking company receives the sofa. So not only do they not know what the correct info is, they have no customer service skills, but they charge about $140 for delivery and I can't get my sofas in a timely manner. I will NEVER again buy anything from them again! I'm to the point I want my money back. Like they say....if you want something done...do it yourself. Thank goodness for Ikea!

I'm now getting married in St. Lucia and saw a suit that matched my dress perfect except the size jacket he needed was not available in the store. We ordered it at the store and now over 3 weeks later it is NO LONGER AVAILABLE and no one ever called to notify us! I HATE JC PENNY AND WILL NEVER SHOP THERE AGAIN!

Somehow message got deleted. This message was originally posted on 3/3/2008 before lollollol's comment.

>>>We had terrible experience with sales person (Elizabeth Wilson) on 3/1/2008 around 6 pm. I tried to get into fitting room with my wife and three & one year old daughters, so that we all can give response much quickly which dress looks the best. We got in last time without any problem. This sales person (not well trained sales person) stopped me going into the dressing room with my wife and kids.  This dressing room is first room that does not have me walk thru all the dressing rooms.  I told her should we try men's dressing room.  And there is no such thing and there is no sign saying women only.  When I asked her second timeshe just told me "should I call security?" It was awful experience for our family and especially embarrassing in front of other people.  I first complain to other employee and this person brought a floor manager.  Later JC Penney floor manager apologized to us what has happened. She even mentioned that she is new to this store and did not get training.  I basically advised to manager that if she did not know what would be the best way then sales person could ask a manager for help instead of just saying calling security.  You can meet very rude and awful sales person in this store.  Store address is 7804 Abercorn St, #A, Savannah, GA 31406 .

Jcp is probably the worst store you could ever shop at. For one the workers are rude. The Lost Prevention stalks you automatically assuming your going to steal something. There is a woman that works in Jrs. i believe her name is Holly. She must be a manager or something. However she does not know what she is doing. She is a BITCH.. she should learn how to deal with customers before she decides to become supervisor of that department. JCP just needs a change of the employees.

In reference to the gentleman who had a problem with the salesperson. I think she did the right thing. You have no business going into the women's dressing room! Most women are half dressed in there. Next time stay outside where you belong and your wife can come out to show you. What are you thinking? What makes you so special?! Stay out, please. We don't want to be uncomfortable with men in the dresing room. Get over it.

I must say that most people do only post on these things if they have encountered a problem or issue with a company. I work for JCPenney in MA and I would just like to say as an associate that I do my best to provide the very best customer service for Penney's customers. I have had many customers leave extremely satisfied. I know that the associates I work with also do their very best to make the customers happy, going out of their way and taking that extra step to find whatever it is that the customer is looking for. Please remember not everyone is perfect and and mistakes will happen in every company. The JCPenney managers I know in my MA store are more than generous to our customers if there ever arises an issue.

Don't bother to order the Sanders Cove Furniture. The table is ok if you don't pay full price. When assembling the chairs, the holes don't line up. I have sent the Hutch back twice because both times it arrived damaged. I am having the third hutch sent to JC Penny furniture department and having them open the box and inspect it before delivery. Their furniture gets a big fat ZERO from me.

I have shopped at Penneys for years however, lately I am disturbed by the deceptive tactics used in the store. At Christmastime I purchased 2 pandigital frames from them with 2 rebates on each. When I sent them in both rebates required original barcodes and receipt. Since there are two, you cannot get both so why do they advertise that sale price??? The rebates are at different locations so it isn't possible to send them together,I tried.

This site forced me to rate - I'd give them -10, but that's not an option. I've been a JC Penney customer for over 20 years. I had a problem with a payment not posting to my bill this cycle and called customer service. They have always had wonderful customer service in the past - the customer service reps were English speaking Americans who were very courteous and anxious to resolve a problem. After THREE phone calls with people I could not understand and were rude to boot (acted indignant that I could not understand them and wanted a supervisor, I gave up trying to get an English speaking customer service rep - evidently they've outsourced to India too. I just cut up my credit card and put it in the envelope with my bill paid in full. No thanks. There's plenty of other places to shop.

I was looking for a leather sleeper sofa and found one online at JCP. I went to the local store and learned that that only a few stores carry furniture, the closest being 100 miles away in Tulsa. I drove to Tulsa to try out the sofa only to learn that what they have on the Internet and what they have in the store are two different things. I drove 200 miles for nothing. I thought about buying the sofa sight unseen until I saw the shipping charges and taxes. I like their clothing but won't waste my time with their furniture.

My husband and I recently ordered a vanity/sink online from JCPenny. It took over a month for delivery. Repeated phone calls and emails to the company gave us no satisfaction. We were told to be patient we would be contacted by the delivery service within one to two days..that was two weeks ago. Today a very lovely marble nightstand was delivered! We ordered a vanity/sink. The customer service representative told me we would have to wait another 14 business days (that's about a month to you and I.) We are now going to return the nightstand to the store, and look for a vanity/sink elsewhere!

I had my worst experience buying online from this store. My husband and I decided to purchase a bed from JC PENNY. Well, it took 8 weeks to received the bed even though we made several calls. In addition, after receiving the bed late they sent us the wrong frame!!! We decided that we had enough and returned the bed. WELL, It had passed more that 5 weeks and our credit card has not been credit. We needed to file a dispute with this store. I have never experience such a POOR service. I have to put one because I would not be able to submit this rate BUT NO STAR is what they deserve.

I made a purchase online and had it shipped to my mother, there was a place on the shopping cart to receive an instant $10 off on the purchase. Well, that $10.00 off has cost me near $40.00. At no time was I ever told I would be charged $9.95 per month for a SBS Fun Family Rewards Service. I still don't even know what the rewards service does and yet I continue to be charged the $9.95 monthly. My calls to discontinue the service haven't been returned or acknowledged. Someone tell me how to end the vicious cycle. Disturbed in FL

Absolutely horrible experience with JC Penney.

After a recommendation from a friend, we placed a large order for window treatments, by Hunter Douglas.

Repeated service issues with the appt. The designer, Beverly, canceled several appts without setting new ones, did not return calls, and in general ignored us. Once we escalated the issue, we finally got her out. She mis-measured 2 different windows, and ordered incorrect units/parts.

It took us 2 months to get someone out again, and they repeatedly gave us the run around, didnt return calls, and in general, ignored us again.

When I escalated by calling everyone short of the CEO, they finally came out, and pointed out AGAIN that she had ordered the wrong part, which was causing damage to the verticals!

I will yell from the highest mountain about how horrible JC Penney is. I will yell about how bad their service is. I will do everything I can to make sure that no one I know shops there for anything, let along window treatments. The friend who recommended them is embarrassed and feels bad, and she is now joining me in my mission to ensure everyone knows how bad this group is.

I love, love, love this store! Def one of my favorite stores! They carry everything for everyone. The quality is great for the young adult, womens, and mens department, but not as good for the junior girls and boys. They carry very instlye clothes, but whos to say they'll be instyle next season. But the prices are great so you can afford it. They have a great casual dress-formal dress section, and also a great business attire section. As for the shoe department, not so great. They don't have a big selection and the styles aren't very appealing. But I do highly reccommend this store!

I purchased some bedding online for my son. On the shopping cart it said "click here for instant $10 rebate". It did not have anything else around it. When I clicked on it nothing happen so I just continued on with out the $10. Almost 2 months later I see a charge on my card for $9.95 from a Family fun rewards center. Come to find out because I clicked on that link they sign me up for that program with out my permission. JCPENNEY gave them my credit card info with out my authorization. When I called JCPENNEYS, they even claimed that it was deceiving, and that they had taken it off. If they are willing to give some other company I have never heard of my credit card info then there is no telling what else they are willing to do. I will never shop at JCPENNEYS again.

As the mother of a young child,I am often forced to buy off the rack and try things on later, returning them if I don't like the fit, style, etc. I recently bought a pair of jeans at JCPenney that I needed to return the next day (less than 12 hours later). When I got to the sales desk I was told they needed a government issued photo ID, even though I had my original sales slip, in order to return the item. The salesperson then took my ID, scanned it into the computer and processed my return. When she took my ID I assumed she would simply use it to verify my identity. I was not told she would be scanning it and entering that information into the JCPenney computer database. After the fact, I was told that the scan would only be part of the JCPenney system and would not be used or shared. Of course this is to protect JCPenney from Credit card fraud.

First, I should have been told BEFORE she scanned my card that that was her intent. Second, how can a company allow someone to make a purchase without asking for a photo ID and then turn around and make it mandatory to present one upon return? I was not asking for a store credit or a cash credit, only a credit to the same card which had originally been used to make the purchase. JCPenney is protecting their own butt with this policy, certainly not the interests of their customers. If they wanted to protect their customers, they would ask to see (NOT SCAN) a photo ID every time someone uses a credit card to make a purchase. Most customers would appreciate the extra care taken to protect their credit. Verify BEFORE THE SALE that they are actually letting the holder of the credit card make the purchase. Third, give me a break. No corporate computer system is safe from break-in, as has been proved recently by companies like DSW, TJ Maxx and more. These systems are not infallible by any stretch of the imagination; especially I would think a company on the scale of JCPenney. And let's face it, JCPenney is so agressive in their marketing already that I'm more than a little skeptical they're not collecting this information for a purpose.

So far, everyone I've mentioned this experience to has expressed amazement and suggested that I don't shop there anymore and that they won't do so either. This policy is a both a violation of privacy and an endangerment to my personal information. Shame on them.

I have to downgrade my shopping at JC Penney from four stars to three starts - I have shopped at their stores for over 30 years and never had a problem. This time we purchased $1500 worth of bedding from their Tulsa store. The salesman kept on telling us that if we did not like the bed we would have 45 days to exchange it for a different model, provided we paid a 10% restocking fee, and a $50 redelivery charge. Once we installed the new beds we realized that the top of the mattresses was 33 inches from the floor. We would have needed a step stool to go to bed. I called their customer service and also spoke with their Tulsa store personnel to request that the 9 inch box spring be exchanged for a 5 inch box spring. Both were adamant that the exchange program covered only the mattresses, not the box springs. The salesman even admited that the policy was changed in January because too many people had the same problem we had. I feel that the salesman and the literature should have clearly pointed out that the policy applied only to the mattresses, and that the salesmen should have cautioned us that the new bedding is much higher off the ground than the older ones used to be. I was offered new box springs for $255 but, I decided to lower my bed frame instead. Of course, this will be my last furniture purchase at JC Penney.

We don't have a local store but I have not had any problems ordering from their catalog. They have a nice selection, and are a little less expensive than Macy's, Bloomingdales, Lord & Taylor, etc.

My whole family are JC Penney shoppers. I enjoy going in to their stores and spending a lot of time in there, especially the accessories department. Sure beats shopping at Dillards.

A very stable company that is headed towards being the number one destination for middle America shoppers. They are improving on pay and benefits for employees and continue to grow (opening around 50 new store per year)so, there is opportunity for advancement .
